The Duncombe Arms is a beautiful, traditional country pub situated at the heart of the lovely rural village of Ellastone on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border. Located on the edge of the Peak District near the towns of Ashbourne and Uttoxeter it is a great place to visit providing a delightful setting in which to enjoy a drink, some lovely food, as well as a chat with friends or family.

Come inside and enjoy a roaring log fire, sample our excellent range of beers and wines or enjoy fabulous food from our award-winning chef Scott Law. Or in the summer you can laze in our large garden overlooking the view to Worthy Island Wood.

    Consistently good here, great service, beautiful meal, the tarte tatin is THE BEST!! It was my birthday and the staff wished me happy birthday at different times and presented me with a chcolate board at the end of the meal.

    Very high quality food, especially the mussels! Excellent service… very attentive but not in your face Although it’s more expensive than most pubs, it’s worth paying more for the quality

    It is not often that an eatery with the reputation and reviews of The Duncombe Arms lives up to its billing, but on my first time of eating there, it not only met but significantly exceeded my expectations. The ambience is quite special; charming elegance and homely warmth in the same package. The service was excellent and the staff are friendly, appropriately attentive and knowledgeable. But the star of the show is undoubtedly the food which was glorious. Perfect portion size, superb choice, lovely presentation and flavours that will live long in the memory. Hands down the best meal I have eaten for a very long time. This was my first visit but it most definitely will not be my last.

    Food was excellent. Best we've had at the Duncombe Arms in a while. The young lady that looked after us that evening (apologies I didn't catch her name) was extremely helpful and professional. Thank you for a memorable and enjoyable evening.

    Absolutely fabulous lunch. Food was exceptional and the service excellent. We ate in the restaurant but all dining areas were equally appealing. We live fairly close to the Duncombe Arms and have often talked of going for a meal until we finally did it today. Why oh why did we leave it so long????

    Excellent food. Ambience spoilt by the next table having a loud Face time conversation. Not the fault of the establishment that some people are just rude and inconsiderate.

    Food excellent at lunch! If they ever stop that fish goujon sandwich I will be devastated! Great as usual apart from my half full half pint of estella...looked like someone had taken a slurp before it got to me. Lovely waitress but slightly grumpy waiters?

    Warm welcome into a bustling dining ambiance. Just what was need after a two hour drive. Food good and service attentive. Dining area in conservatory was quite noisy. All together an execellant dining experience.

    First time at this ‘Gastropub’ Seated at table in main dining area but right on main thru route. Felt it had been shoehorned in and constant traffic past table Service was excellent, professional and crisp, better than most restaurants. Lovely ambience other than the table location. My main was disappointing. Burger brioche bun was not fresh and main burger patties despite being a high meat content was woefully under seasoned and tasted of bland minced beef. My partners main was also on the small side, it suited her but others may feel short changed. After dinner espresso was lukewarm. This establishment is at the top end pricing wise of local similar food options. Whilst service and ambience is very good, food has to lead and on this visit it was disappointing for us.
