   Great meal, wonderful service. Always requested a table with a lake view but never had one, even reserving 8 weeks in advance. This time though, we had a table with a lake view. Third times a charm. Guess you have to go on a Monday.

   I have been to Spencer’s enough times to know the food and service is excellent and that they tend to do the little things really well. They are usually very friendly, attentive and detail oriented. Today was not that experience at all. It was a special birthday lunch celebrating my mom who is 95 years young. I picked Spencers because they are usually so good in so many ways. I mentioned the birthday in the reservation request. At the same time also asked for a nice window table. The hostess was going to seat us in a booth by the washroom. I had to ask for another table more scenic table that was open. As we sat down, they presented her with a handwritten note. (nice!). But if you have gone to the trouble of writing the note, say “hey…its your birthday. HBD” when you give it to her. Don’t just put the card in front of her and say nothing. It was weird! She also neglected to ask when we left how our lunch was and wish her HBD. It wasnt that busy. The server was also the bar tender and coffee butler. He seemed to be the only one serving and was clearly stretched too thin. I asked for my entree to be cut for sharing. (They failed to do this). I had hoped they would have put a candle and written HBD on her dessert but there was nothing. The waiter didnt even ask if it was a special occasion but given my many other experiences there I didnt think to mention it since it was with the rez. Im simply disappointed as it was a big milestone birthday. I write this to advise others who might be celebrating something there, that this restaurant overlooks details and so if choosing a celebration there be forewarned that they might fall short in making it special if you dont speak up. Don’t assume that the request in the Rez will create a memorable experience. I know a lot of the experience for the birthday girl is on those dining with her. But they shouldn’t bother asking for special comments in the rez if you aren’t going to accommodate.

   Very noisy and bad acoustics. Service very casual for the price. We reserved well in advance for two people birthday celebration and they put us in the middle of three very large groups vs. the more out of the way spots better for couples. Steak tough
