Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

A very nice setting in a remote but easy enough to get to location. Friendly staff but a bit inexperienced. We waited over 35 minutes before someone took our order and only after I went to find someone. The onion rings were okay but over priced for the amount you get. All the plates are nicely presented. fries were prominent and the entree while tasty was not generous. The hamburger was great. One of the best burgers in the area. I’d go back. The swamp behind the restaurant is beautiful ..and definitely worth the ride .

My family and I arrived about 45 minutes early. They told us they would call us closer to our scheduled time which was fine. We were seated 20 minutes later. They had a nice 5 course set menu for the Thanksgiving day dinner with 2-3 options for appetizer,soup and salad, and 6 options for main dish and dessert. We had a reservation at 4pm which by that time of the day they were running out of certain items,and had to change a few of the ordered items. We understood and went with the flow. The server Was gracious and kind. The family loved the pecan cobbler! This was a nice place to have a Thanksgiving giving dinner.

We chose this spot for the view which was wonderful, but found the service and atmosphere were rivals to it. But none of these could hold a candle to the meal which were a marvel from appetizers to dessert. The Filet Mignon was seasoned and cooked to perfection. While my wife’s Redfish was paired wonderfully with an alligator sauce. I highly recommend them and plan to return.

Ashley was an excellent server who made our Thanksgiving dinner very special. She was timely and very attentive. All of the staff were friendly and courteous. The ambiance was great as usual, and seeing an alligator and all the wildlife was wonderful. We chose Restaurant des Familles because it is one of our favorite restaurants in the area and they did not disappoint in making our Thanksgiving meal memorable. We will be back soon as we have guests coming in from Michigan for New Year’s. We know they will love the atmosphere and the food that only Restaurant des Familles can provide!!!
