   One of our best dinners in Maui, if not our favorite. Food was on point, drinks were great and lovely location. I was shocked it wasn’t busier when we arrived, though it was packed by the time we left. Perfect spot to get your fix on a monkeypod Mai Tai without having to deal with the crowds there (and I thought the food was just as good, if not better)

   We’re fans of Merriman’s and Monkeypod Kitchen, so we thought we’d give Ulu Kitchen a try. Ambiance was beautiful but food wasn’t nearly as good, but just as expensive, as the other Merriman’s restaurants.

   I recently dined at Ulu Kitchen in Maui and had a great experience overall. The setting is absolutely stunning—right on the water and perfect for a sunset dinner. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the drinks were equally impressive. That said, the portions were surprisingly small, especially considering the high prices. I also wasn’t a fan of the focaccia bread—it didn’t quite hit the mark. Despite those downsides, I’d still consider going back for the ambiance and quality. But if you’re looking for value, just be prepared: you’re paying more for the experience than the portion size.

   Our server, Loren, was excellent…attentive while still allowing for a relaxed experience. Menu is interesting and food is top notch. Ambience should be amazing with the ocean view, but instead, it is a little weird with a main cut through from the beach to the hotel next to table seating (so lots of tired, unhappy, and crying kids hanging out in that area while families were figuring out where to go next). Also many folks used the restaurant as a cut through from the bar area so there were some very intoxicated folks bumping into our seats or taking their kids through the table seating area as the direct route to the elevators. As such, not a good spot for a romantic evening or a quiet meal. Happily, we were celebrating a birthday so we just put up with the disruption. The bar on the opposite side of the restaurant had live music so that made the restaurant vibe pretty lively.

   You can get lost in touristy food along this stretch of beach but Ulu really separated  itself from the others with the quality of food. The surf and turf combo is delicious. The lobster raviolis are unlike any lobster ravioli I’ve had before they are more of like a wonton, absolutely delicious.

   Lobster ravioli portion is very small. Strawberry salad and burger were delicious. Coconut crème brûlée very good! Server was fabulous!
