We were the only people for dinner. It was obvious that we were just a nuisance and they’d rather we left as soon as possible. At 8.30pm they started locking up, looking at their watches and regularly asking if we wanted anything else. Code for leave as soon as possible! We were celebrating a birthday & as a treat asked for something for dessert that was off the menu but very simple to do. No way. We were a party of 6 & none of us will go there again while the current owners and staff are there. It was very disappointing.

As you say you were the only ones left in a restaurant that normally closes at 8pm during the weekdays as advertised online and on site, so the staff did in fact stay open later than normal by almost an hour for you and your guests. It is disappointing to hear that you did not appreciate that.
With no chef on site after 8pm when the special dessert request was made the staff had to refuse because they cannot just make special desserts they are untrained to make for food safety reasons no matter how simple you think it is.
The owner was on site on Wednesday so you could have escalated a complaint to them in person and we would have attempted to fix the issue on the night rather than having you resort to having to post this review on a small rural business.
