Casual, coastal restaurant in Bloomington. Reservations are taken for the dining room only, patio seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that the appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as in any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long-term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      My husband and I tried the restaurant for the first time on yesterday to celebrate Love day weekend. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband didn’t like the fries that came with his steak, but his steak was medium well and moist. I had the crab leggy and shrimp boil and omg it was so worth the money. Overall a great experience.

The shrimp bruschetta was so delicious and they do not skimp on the shrimp. The crab boil was just as amazing with generous portions of crab, boiled potatoes, slaw, sausage, corn on the cob and bread. Everything was so well seasoned and love how they tell you how to eat the food- which makes it more than just eating out but a fun experience. The service is also top notch! London was our server and she was so friendly and attentive, and made our visit even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The staff members were all very friendly and helpful, they greeted us warmly and provided excellent seating. Our server was on his best game and provided good guidance on food and wine choices. (Future thought: the Corking Fee is only $25 so bringing your own wine might be an option.) Will definitely be going back to this restaurant!!

The lobster was small and overcooked. Neither my wife or I could get the lobster meat out of the shell. I should have sent them back but they were getting cold. The crab legs were cold as well as the shrimp. I had ordered a half pound of king crab. I was served one and a half small legs. I expected more.

Food excellent. Spanish Paella with snow crab. Very good, flavorful with a little bit of bite but not too much. Wife had the shrimp boil. She commented how good that was as well. Both were delicious, the lobster was cooked perfectly and was so tender. But the star was the house made Beneighs, the pastry was outstanding, the best I've ever had. The sauce for the generously powder sugared beneighs was over the top to bring the dish to almost better than sex 😋. I definitely recommend the Smack Shack. The pricing is $$$$, however I felt the food was worth every penny.
