The Shepherd & Dog has maintained all the traditions you would expect in a country pub but with an unrivalled view in an outstanding setting at the bottom of Devils Dyke. The fabulous Sunday Roast is on offer from noon, serving all the way to the last booking at 5.30PM. Locally sourced, seasonal food menus showcasing the best of the local area. We have received BRAVO restaurant awards in the top pubs category, year after year.
All craft beers are local, exclusive or unusual in some way - no run of the mill here!

Seven of us went for Sunday lunch. The mains were excellent, with the vegetables being a highlight. Plus, wonderful Yorkshire puds and lashings of great gravy. Desserts were equally good. Recommended!

Excellent burger, pies and fish&chips. Good beer selection from local brewers and attentive service. A great local pub with a open log fire.

This was my first time visiting the Shepherd & Dog and it was lovely! I had haddock and chips for main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was delicious. Both dishes came on the set menu where two courses were £20 which I thought was a great deal. Would definitely recommend.

Whilst the food, service and overall experience was as fabulous as ever, it is very disappointing that the menu no longer contains as many gluten-free dishes as it used to. Our daughter is coeliac, so discovering the Shepherd and Dog a while ago, with its extensive selection of gluten-free dishes, immediately made it our favourite go-to venue for a family meal. We have visited many times since, always thankful that we have found somewhere warm, friendly and offering our daughter a far greater choice than the majority of pubs and restaurants. In a world where there is still scant choice of eateries for coeliacs, we sincerely hope that the current menu is adapted once more, to allow us to continue treating the Shepherd and Dog as our top destination for great food.

Had a nice lunch today at the S & D, three adults and two very young children. Staff very accommodating and helpful which made our experience most pleasant. Food portions are very generous and good value for money. Will definitely go again.
