The Renegade Room Restaurant is a public restaurant operated by the students enrolled in the Foods and Nutrition Program. The program incorporates lessons in nutrition, cost control, supervision and management, baking, food production, dining room services and food service safety and sanitation.

These skill sets are then applied to hands-on training experiences in both the Kitchen and Dining Room Lab stations. Students are given production menus and schedules to prepare fresh meals, while others see to the Customer Service end of business waiting tables in the Renegade Room.

The students were fantastic. We had hostess, wait staff, and servers. The food was delicious we went back for seconds. We had the East Asian buffet. What amazing program we cannot wait to go back

Prior to the Pandemic I had heard about the dinners at Bakersfield College culinary program and had planned on attending. 1st a shout out to Bakersfield College for having a community Culinary program, helping to give Kern County, California a dedicated Culinary program to help build our restaurant staff. Impressed with the young adults and their professionalism. The food and service were outstanding. Help support this great asset to our community.

Came for the Tuesday evening fine dining. The food is delicious! Everything is prepared and well thought out. The presentation of food reflects the quality and taste. The bonus is the value you receive at a price point incomparable to anywhere else.

Attention to detail, in service and presentation of menu items ordered, is superior to most public fine dining establishments. I,and my husband, were recipients of a thoroughly enjoyable experience, in choosing The Renegade Room as a 'go-to' affordable choice in fine dining.

What a great place to dine! Excellent food, some of which I experienced for the first time! What a treat do have a totally unique dining experience! We are definitely going back!

My husband and I have eaten numerous meals at the Renegade Room. It’s like eating in a Michelin star restaurant. The most recent experience started with an amuse buche. It’s a couple of bites that are meant to provide some fun for your mouth. Then you chose either a salad or a bowl of soup. Either one offers unique flavors. Then comes a challenge between two main courses. We both selected lamb chops with a mint chutney. They were surrounded by a bed of couscous. Dessert consisted of baklava which compared to my own homemade baklava. I was taught by a woman who used almonds from her orchard. The Renegade Room’s nuts were pistachios which I must admit I prefer. Accompanying the baklava was a small scoop of cardamom ice cream. This was my first experience with cardamon so I had to Google it, of course. It’s used around the world in many different foods. The Renegade Room provides a unique eating experience with a variety of food not found in just one restaurant. Dian Olmstead

You can't go wrong with The Renegade Room Restaurant at Bakersfield College. The Chefs/Instructors are top notch and are teaching the Chefs-in-Training/Students all the best techniques, preparing all different courses that make up a gourmet meal. Nice touch that the Chef takes the time to come out and greet the diners. On top of that, the value is unparalleled -- a 3 course gourmet meal for less that what you'd spend for fast food. Remember to tip your serving staff!!! :-)
