    You are my absolute fav restaurant. I have been there 10+ times and always walk away amazed and satisfied. Tonight was not good and I’m super disappointed. I hope it was an off night…

    Dinner at The Progress is absolutely worth stalking OpenTable for the reservation. The whole staff is attentive and having fun - the hostess had great banter and our server was phenomenally helpful with the menu and made sure we had just what our little hearts desired. The space itself is fantastic - green, big art, nice light fixtures, a tall ceiling - and there's a nice chatter level and energy without being oppressive. Of course, the main attraction is the food. The pig head was as much salad as pigs head but obviously you cannot go wrong with the combination of delicious pork, fennel and apple. The butter beans were simultaneously crispy and creamy with a great acidic pop to offset the fried feeling tossing in some burrata never hurt anyone either. Radicchio & persimmon salad hit the spot with the bitter and sweet combo lifted by the unami of hard cheese. The scallop crudo was the one thing I won't rave about - it was tasty but just a bit busy with a heavy emphasis on the yuzu - maybe should be billed as a ceviche more than crudo? But the real highlight was the dungeness crab and whole wheat sorpresine - in season, sweet crab and absolutely expertly prepared pasta? Sign me up. We didn't get any of the "main attractions" so I can't tell you much about potato clouds and duck. The table next to us got both so all I know for sure is that the cloud looks cute I guess and I'd probably want a party of 4 to tackle the duck. You could manage with 2 but there's so much deliciousness on offer that you should either bring friends or skip it and save room in my humble opinion. Cocktails are reasonably incentive sounding. A Mr Sinister is a really nice use of Mezcal and Benedictine that I wouldn't have cooked up on my own. The wine list is varied enough to have something of great quality for every taste. Dessert came in the form of a lemon olive oil cake that was equal parts very lemony and very sweet. Just a delightful way to cap off the meal. Next time we have somet

    I really wanted to love the Progress- I really enjoy State Bird Provisions (sister restaurant), and I knew the Progress also has one Michelin star. When I got the chance to celebrate my birthday there earlier this week, I was really excited, and expected to have a wonderful time with a small group of friends. While the food was excellent, our service was what ruined the dinner for us. Our server was rude to us, and the staff was fairly inattentive for drinks refills (or bringing our original order). I think the GM noticed that we were feeling pretty offput, and tried to course correct the server, but ultimately this made us just feel stared at all dinner, so we couldn't enjoy a meal together, which was the point of eating here to start with. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back - the price point for food was reasonable for SF, and the food was excellent, but there are plenty of other options where this is true and the service is professional and polite (if not kind and welcoming).

    The Progress never disappoints. We sat at the bar for a pre birthday celebration and had the best time. First, if you get to have the pleasure of Brent the bartender and server was outstanding in every sense. While making tons of cocktails, he was able to guide us through the menu and pick the best choices for our meal - all with a beautiful grin. The food is above excellent, imaginative, well prepared and presented. Service staff is efficient and just the right amount of friendly. A definite go to!

    I had to go through a whole process to let the restaurant know we were celebrating a birthday, including pre-ordering and pre-paying for desserts. However, the server who delivered the desserts to our table (who was not our waitress) just put the desserts down on the table - no acknowledgment that it was for a birthday, no explanation of the dessert. We weren’t expecting them to sing Happy Birthday, but at least an acknowledgment would have been nice given that there seemed to be an entire process in place for celebrating an occasion at the restaurant. We even had to flag down our waitress to ask what the desserts were. If I knew this was the case, I would have let the celebrant actually order a dessert she wanted off the menu. It was really awkward and disappointing.
