The Mercantile Social is a Kitchen + Bar that is the focal point of the city and offers a one-of-a-kind casual fine dining experience. From our 30+ seater marble top bar to our open concept dining room and state of the art design, guests are leaving with a unique impression and has easily been a "go-to" place.

From social plates to fresh seafood and signature dishes we stand on the corner of Hollis and Sackville, and sit at the crossroads of historic Halifax’s first garrison and the modern undertones of downtown. Hearkening back to our mercantile history, The Mercantile Social takes inspiration from European and Latin American influences, and a sense of adventure that opens up our part of the world to taste and influences from around the globe.     We started with crab dip which was.absolutely delicious. I followed that up with the mushroom ravioli which was outstanding. My dinner companion had the seafood linguini which he found a little flat and he was disappointed that the sauce was not more robust. The meal was wrapped up with the sorbet which we shared and was yummy. Overall a really good meal but the table beside us was extremely loud which took away from our experience.

    Try the brussel sprouts, they’re amazing. Winter eggnog espresso martini was also phenomenal. All the food was great and we couldn’t have asked for a better waitress. We’re very happy to have dined with The Mercantile Social for our anniversary. We’ll be back again!

    The atmosphere was very nice The view was very beautiful at night The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable The people around us were laughing and laughing Made us feel very comfortable Noise level was very good Definitely will return

    Celiac Disease limits your restaurant options. Both my husband and I have been at the Mercantile Social before with our corporate events and I really enjoyed a particular pasta dish that was prepared gluten free. Was excited to return. Pasta was not cooked and waitress did not return until it was time to ask if we wanted dessert. Did not even get offered cracked pepper for my pasta like other tables around us. Only ate less than half of my meal. Very disappointed in the service and the food quality. Restaurant was only half full so staffing was adequate.

    Food is OK, however we had to send the ravioli back as it was simply tasteless and dry. Staff were friendly and the service was OK.

    We reserved a table for 4, all they had was the bar which was fine but the bar is a free for all so when we got there the bar was mostly full so the res was useless

    The crab dip was amazing!! highly recommend. It was very quiet on a Sunday evening, great for a quiet date night

    The Mercantile Social can be the perfect diner experience for a casual date, anniversary or just meeting up with friends. The food was beyond amazing and the flourless chocolate cake was do die for. Will be coming back again without a bout.

    Waitress was wonderful! Very knowledgeable and attentive to our table. Only thing negative, I didnt realy care of my martinis. But the wine and food was super great.
