Superb work on the food. The ambience was great and the New Year’s Eve dinner was spectacular. We had come before for dinner here before and it was amazing already but wanted something extra special to celebrate my friends getting a new house and my birthday. This was such a wonderful night. The food wasn’t overly frivolous just a beautiful meld of hard work and dedication. My favorite dishes were the peking duck agnolotti, the Ahi wellington and the A5 wagyu entree.

Outstanding food and service. It was noisy but also it was NYE, so expected. Would love to dine there again.

This was a fantastic dinner! Everything we had here was surprisingly innovative (look, Sonoma has great fresh local food but I don’t always expect it to be interesting or lean much past traditional Californian flavors). The Matheson had really unique flavor pairings that seemed both French and Asian influenced Service was great (checking in the host seemed a bit frazzled) Really loved this place

We were praying prior to our meal and the staff interrupted us to deliver drinks without apology - a little awareness would’ve been appreciated. However, the food was good overall. The squid ink and uni bucatini was satisfying but needed acidity or an herbal note to break up the monotony of the savory and unctuous notes in the dish. (Shiso or finely chopped rosemary would’ve been interesting if used sparingly). The skate was good, but a little over salted. The highlights were the fries and cucumber salad were delicious but probably not where the restaurant would like to make its mark.

I’m so happy we celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Matheson. Everyone was amazing and so welcoming! We received a card, congratulatory wine toast and everyone went out of their way to make our evening special. The food is first class but the staff make this restaurant perfect. Thank you!

Having dined here in the past we were excited to eat here again. Our server was great. The salads were delish . Beverage selections were good . The issue was with the entree.. Black Cod. Three quarter size bits wrapped in Nori with a Dashi broth… served room temp. The Noti overpowered the delicate tiny bits of Cod and was a such a disappointment both in the appetizer size portion.. for $42 !!! …and taste. If we wanted a cooked sushi appetizer for dinner we would have ordered one! Too bad

We had a 5:45 reservation, and while getting seated was quick, things took a turn shortly after. The bar was bustling, and the dining room was still light. Our server was friendly and accommodating throughout the meal. However, the issues began with my drink order. I requested a stirred, straight-up Botanist with a twist and no vermouth—essentially a very dry martini. The server repeated the order back to me, and I confirmed it. He mentioned the bar was very busy, so the drinks might take some time. We also ordered the bread plate to enjoy with our cocktails. The bread arrived promptly, but our drinks took about 20 minutes. While we understood the delay given the bar’s crowd, my drink arrived briny, tasting like a dirty martini. Rita agreed, and I flagged down my server to let him know about the mistake. He apologized sincerely and said he would have a new drink made for me. Unfortunately, the corrected cocktail took another 25 minutes to arrive, long after we had finished the bread plate. By then, I hoped our dinner wouldn’t arrive too soon so I could enjoy my drink. Despite this, our meals and wine arrived shortly after, forcing me to hurriedly finish my cocktail to focus on dinner and wine—not the experience I had envisioned. Adding to the disappointment, used dishes piled up on our small table, including appetizer dishes and barware, making the setting feel cluttered and uncomfortable. Overall, this was not the date nite I had planned. The initial mistake with my drink order, the prolonged delay in correcting it, and the inattentiveness to clearing our table compounded the negative experience. I had higher expectations for a restaurant of the Matheson’s reputation.
