The Green Man is a real gem of the English countryside, situated in the ancient village of Toot Hill, Essex. The Green Man is an extremely family friendly and comfortable pub close to excellent golfing facilities and a wedding venue. It prides itself as an ideal place to relax for locals, diners, those at the 19th hole to walkers and cyclists who pass our door. As well as offering a fantastic courtyard restaurant for a wonderful dining experience.

It's frequently visited by the cast of 'The only way is essex' as the owners are the proud parents of Jake Hall.

Had an enjoyable evening meal with live music after. Would recommend the pub to others as the staff were friendly and helpful.

Chef didn't turn up apparently, so unable to fulfill my booking! It is under new ownership so jury is out whether to try again another time.

The Green Man has the potential to be a truly superb restaurant, lovely setting and very nice decor in restaurant. Peter the head waiter is very attentive and clearly wants the restaurant to give good service and be successful. Unfortunately I'm not sure the owners have the same attitude - arrived at 8.30 to find screaming kids in the bar area, hardly romantic - 2nd visit and second time much of the menu not available, including as before the Beef Wellington - food pretty good to be fair but for two of us, 2 courses and a couple of drinks - £92 is not particularly cheap. - disappointing as really could be a great place to go

We had Sunday lunch and the food was lovely, however the boiler had broken down and it was so cold that we didn't hang around to have dessert. Shame because the food is so nice as was the service.

The Green Man at Toot Hill is very deceptive. On arrival, the exterior of the building looks like any other country pub but once inside it all changes! Silver service restaurant (very polite waiter!) with a proper 'restaurant' feel rather than just an eating area within a pub. Food good (although I had the roast chicken which was difficult to eat/take off the bone) - taste was good though. One of my fellow diners had the vegetarian option which was delicious. Recommend - only slight problem is the rural location (the entire party I was with had to drive, so water with meal only!)

Beware - booked via opentable and drove from Surrey to have lunch here. Turns out they were closed and hadn't updated their opentable status. Enjoyed a good lunch at the Woodman nearby instead.

This was the second time we have been here and it was just as good as the first! The food was delicious, they catered for a long list of allergies and the waiter was really friendly and welcoming. Warning- the beef wellington is a massive portion, for those with a lighter appetite it may be best to share!

We had dinner at The Green Man on a Saturday night. Initially walking through the pub to get to the restaurant was a bit difficult as it was packed with people. Once we got through the crowds to the restaurant, it was much calmer! The waiter was really lovely and friendly. They were great with coping with my long list of food allergies. The food was delicious! We will be returning.
