The Elgin is a bar & restaurant serving upscale fare situated just south of Rockefeller Center & steps from Broadway & Times Square. Our goal is to provide sophisticated cocktails, a carefully curated craft & seasonal beer list, amazing food in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Please join us!
The Elgin’s 4 main principals, Peter Pernicone, Darwin Conner, Paul Baum & Christine Trauben, have known each other for 30 years. They all grew up on the lower west side of NYC in Chelsea & had a goal of owning a bar together & could not be more excited about opening The Elgin. As an acknowledgment of their collective history, they named a signature cocktail—the Chelsea 1724—after their neighborhood. Darwin & Paul grew up in Chelsea on 17th St and Peter & Christine lived on 24th St. They are joined by Patrick Callaghan who has been working with Peter for many years.

I have often said that some restaurants get to creative trying to make their own imprint on their dishes. This has led to many making dishes I have not enjoyed. The Elgin makes simple food better than other restaurants. Success. We had the Elgin Burger and the pigs in a blanket. The pigs in a blanket were by far the best we ever had. The burger was also very good. Although we ordered medium and it was barely medium rare. Still a great taste. The bar is stocked with an assortment of spirits that will satisfy most anyone with what they would like. A bars bar with great food. It is no wonder this place was packed at 6 PM. We can’t wait to come back and try other items on the menu and expand our list of favorite cocktails.

Had a lovely experience here! The drinks were great service was excellent and everything was delicious. Was not rushed I will definitely be returning.

We previously visited The Elgin on New Year’s Eve 2022/3. The food and service were fabulous so we decided to revisit on this trip to New York. On this occasion we were disappointed with the food and the service was nowhere near as good as our previous visit (other than the person refilling our water who was great!).

Great food and great service at The Elgin. Our reservation went very smoothly and was timely honored. Our group very much enjoyed the taste and preparation of the Fried Cauliflower, Kale and Avocado Salad, French Onion Soup Burger and the Elgin Salad with added chicken. Our waitperson Julia was very nice and patient with a great smile. The servers were very attentive and constantly refilled our water glasses and removed dishes appropriately. The Elgin was very crowded and boisterous between 7 and 8 pm on a Tuesday night, but it was worth talking a little louder to have a very enjoyable dinner. Highly recommended unless you want total peace and quiet.
