The Duke of Cleveland is situated on the Headland in Hartlepool, just a short distance from the coast and next to St Hilda's Church. It is a listed building and the oldest one still in use in the town. Our establishment is a restaurant and pub with an excellent reputation for serving traditional homemade British dishes. We take pride in sourcing produce from local businesses as much as possible and use these ingredients to create the best dishes for our patrons. Our signature dishes include Haddock in our special beer batter with hand-cut chips and the local speciality, the chicken parmesan. We believe in keeping things simple and making them well. On Sundays, we offer a traditional roast dinner with a choice of Roast Rib of Beef, Loin of Pork, Breast of Chicken or Lamb Shank.

The Duke of Cleveland is the ideal venue for weddings and other special occasions or events. It has a choice of function rooms suited to your requirements. In the summer months, we open our cosy bear garden.

Excellent Sunday lunch, generous portions and lots of meat, all freshly cooked. Even the children’s portions for our granddaughters were substantial. All in all it was a lovely lunch for us all. Special mention to Angela who always looks after us.

Had a family meal for my mum’s 90 th birthday. They were so warm and welcoming it was lovely. The food was very tasty. The service was excellent. Really enjoyable visit.

We had an early dinner, so the restaurant was not busy. The service was very friendly and attentive and the venue was spotless. The food was very well presented and there was loads of food which I really enjoyed, though I struggled to eat it all. I had an enormous chicken Parmesan with stilton cheese and mushrooms. My wife had the beef pie. We will definitely return to the venue as we had a lovely time.

It was our second time there for Sunday lunch. Excellent both times. Plenty of meat and veg. Very good service and reasonable prices. Would highly recommend

Food was lovely as were the staff, was busy when we first arrived but we’d pre-booked our table. The staff were lovely, very attentive! Five stars, will definitely come back!

We are here three times during the Hartlepool Folk Festival. The food was very good quality, and we couldn’t recommend the staff highly enough… if we come to the Festival next year, we would definitely want to eat here again.

A fantastic meal as ever here at the Duke of Cleveland. We always come here for a meal on our visits to Hartlepool. Fantastic food, good value and fine service.
