Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

I’m teetotal and ordered a low/no alcohol drink. After a couple of mouthfuls I realised it wasn’t what I ordered and asked that it was checked. I was then informed they’d given me an alcoholic drink. It completely ruined the evening for us despite the food being very nice. The offer to reduce our bill by the drink was an insult and only after complaining to the manager did we get a small additional discount.

The staff were friendly and efficient so we gave a 10% tip but the sirloin steak at £30 was a third fat - this the price for the steak only too!! Over priced.

Went for our wedding. We honestly were treated so well I couldn't have gone to a better place to enjoy our day. Thank you to all the staff you all made it such a wonderful day. The food was fabulous and the drinks were impeccable!!! Thank you all!!!

Nice buzzy atmosphere for a cold mid week January evening - but soo loud it was hard to hear anybody speak we couldn’t hear the servers and ourselves . Service is very expedient but it makes the evening very rushed . The food is expensive but overall the food is good , staff very friendly . Nice booth table French onion soup ok , king prawn starter very good . Scallop starter nice but only 3 scallops and they were small . T bone steak cones on a ridiculous board I hate eating food on wooden boards . Burger was huge and nice . Caesar salad nice but lacked big chunky croutons . Parmesan fries are very nice .

Lovely, relaxed atmosphere, with great food, cocktails and service. One of the best places we’ve been to in York over 5 visits here! Fantastic place to enjoy a celebratory meal. Highly recommend!

We visited Cut & Craft in York on Saturday to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed, perfect for a special occasion. To start, we shared the pork and calamari starters, and both were absolutely outstanding—full of flavor and beautifully presented. For mains, we opted for the flat iron steaks, which were cooked to perfection and paired wonderfully with the thick-cut chips and fries. The mac and cheese we ordered as a side was indulgent and delicious, completing the meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the team went above and beyond to make the evening feel special. We’ll definitely be returning—Cut & Craft is a gem in York for anyone who loves great food and a lively dining experience. Highly recommended!

Booked with the restaurant for my wife’s birthday, I clearly put on the notes if they could possible do something for her with the dessert. Unfortunately all that happened was a card given my wife just before we were ushered to our seats. The lady just looked at us both and said ‘is it someone’s birthday’ and give my wife a card no congratulations no happy birthday. It was obvious who’s birthday it was by the note booking of me saying my wife’s birthday can you do something for the dessert but that never happened, food was lovely just a sour taste on a special day!

This place is a over hyped intsa spot full of those sort of people. Taking photos of food & posing. The service was ok, but the food was average & very overpriced. But the the cocktails were an absolute rip off. Absolutely dreadful, couldn't taste the rumour in my mojito. I even asked if it was a mocktail. Wouldn't recommend. A disappointing experience all round
