A popular hotel, events and wedding venue, the Sweeney is the ideal location to celebrate a special occasion with loved ones, for a business meeting or for simply enjoying a night out with good food and drink.
Whatever the occasion, our team of Chefs relish the challenge of creating dishes that our diners will love every time they visit – whether you’re an old friend of The Sweeney or visiting us for the first time.

The Sweeney works continually with suppliers and local producers in Shropshire, Mid Wales and the surrounding areas to use only the best ingredients, always preferring to source locally where we can.

With a highly creative team we’re always designing new dishes for our ever-changing daily specials, creative event menus and special occasion feasts.

Wonderful dining experience. Sunday lunch with friends. The food and service was fantastic. Maybe addition of another vegetarian option to mains.

A return visit to the sweeny hotel and we weren’t disappointed. The service is excellent the dining room is beautifully decorated. I had Focaccia to start, this was absolutely delicious I would say the best I’ve ever eaten, followed by fish and chips which was so tasty the fish cooked to perfection. Will definitely return soon

We have been celebrating our wedding anniversary at the Sweeney every year since our wedding reception there. We also go on any other occasion we can manage. For me it is the most consistently excellent place to eat in the Oswestry area. The staff are always warm, welcoming and very gracious. The food never disappoints. Whether you’re fine dining or trying something a little more low key, the attention to detail and taste is always fantastic. It is worth noting that the same can be said of the service. You’re treated very well whether having nibbles and a drink or a full on feast! The place is decorated in a tasteful and understated way inside, for a large and old building you never feel cold and the outside areas are a delight in the warmer months. All in all our most favourite place for very good reasons!

This is a fabulous family run hotel that we pop in to every few months. I had major surgery less than 2 weeks ago and just wanted to get out of the house. This was definitely the right choice. We had lunch and the menu was fantastic. I had the porchetta sandwich which came with fries and a dipping pot of the most amazing gravy I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious. My companions were thrilled with their choices and we shared desserts and had coffee. There was a baby shower and a 75th birthday celebration taking place and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves and were being looked after superbly by the awesome staff.

Very welcoming, quick efficient service throughout. Lovely surroundings and excellent food. Would just have liked it to be a bit warmer in the dining area.

Everything was great, we love it here. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Sat by the open fire for drinks before and after our meal. Super table and we weren’t rushed to leave after we had finished. Great food, a really lovely, relaxing place to go with great views.

The lunch special was lovely, the bruschetta especially so. I would have liked the tiramisu to have been a little more moist but overall it was value for money. The dining room is beautiful and the staff friendly and efficient. I would certainly visit again.
