Sushi Yūgen offers an authentic omakase experience, crafted by Head Chef Kyohei Igarashi, who brings expertise from Tokyo, mastering both kaiseki and sushi, including leading a Michelin-starred omakase counter.

Our restaurant features two dining experiences: an 8-seat Chef’s counter (Wed-Sat) and a 12-seat main sushi counter (Mon-Sat), each with unique menus.

Located in Toronto’s financial district, Sushi Yūgen embraces Japanese minimalism and wabi-sabi, celebrating beauty in imperfection and nature’s cycles. Our name, Yūgen, signifies ‘profound mystery and beauty,’ reflecting our philosophy.

Available Monday - Saturday - Experience the art of sushi with our Omakase, featuring authentic, traditional flavours along with some edomae techniques crafted by seasoned sushi chefs boasting 20 to 40 years of expertise, sourcing the finest ingredients predominantly from Japan. Our omakase menu is based on the traditional Japanese dining style in which we defer to the chef to curate seasonal specialities.
Chef's Counter Omakase Dinner - $275/person

Available Wednesday to Saturday - A meticulously crafted 16-18 course menu offering a unique and one of a kind experience combining exquisite Kaiseki inspired delicacies for the first half and refined omakase sushi for second half, all prepared and served personally by our seasoned head chef from Japan with prominent role at a Michelin-starred restaurant oversea before joining Sushi Yugen, using ingredients all sourced directly from Japan. Our Chef's Counter with Head Chef Kyohei Igarashi is available for dinner only at $275 per guest plus 18% gratuity & tax for parties of 4 and under and 20% gratuity & tax for party of 5 or more (Wednesday to Saturday).

I experienced the lunch omakase. The highlights were the three different cuts of blue fin tuna and the beautifully scored ika - all fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. I felt welcomed by everyone. I highly recommend this gem in downtown.

I visited Sushi Yūgen to celebrate my birthday for a solo lunch and wanted to try out an omakase experience for the first time! It was a 10 piece course of the chef’s selection, 1 fatty blue tuna fin roll and miso soup. The servers were all so sweet and accommodating, offering tea as I sat in the waiting area. I was in a trance getting to watch the chef carefully, masterfully mold the sushi by hand and explaining each course was so helpful, and he asked what I thought of each piece and I was happy to tell him my favourites! The servers also gave me a birthday treat (fresh peach juice) at the end of the courses and a paper origami that said “happy birthday” which was a nice touch! I highly recommend trying out their omakase if it’s your first time trying it. Go with a friend or one other person, but I highly recommend going solo if you’re comfortable, because you can interact with the chef and take in the experience without the distraction of another person.
