I just wrote a glowing review that the app erased due to bad programming. So I’ll try to recreate my enthusiasm. We just had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner at Sushi Kuni. We are regular patrons of this amazing restaurant which is fortunately 3 minutes from our house m. It’s the best sushi place in Metro. Starting with the warm welcome Japanese-style greeting, Kuni has a wonderful vibe that includes service, layout, drinks, and food. The restaurant is divided into four sections that flow together but provide intimacy in each one. There are two bar areas, booths near the entrance, a small dining room with tables, and a booth area in back. These booths are open to the side but have Japanese-style partitions front and back. You can see other patrons but it feels private as well. We choose the excellent craft cocktails but there are sake flights and drinks, and wine/beer. We like the fact that the excellent sushi is complemented by lovely appetizers like eggplant in fish broth and potato croquettes. We have always chosen sushi as an entree but this time had the exquisite black cod in a savory sauce with rice on the side. And the charming Valentine’s Day special dessert with a cake/cookie base and chestnut paste filling, and a candied chestnut on top. For Valentine’s Day there were small pink neon lights that spelled “love.” Service is always impeccable, prompt, and friendly despite the fact that the restaurant was full for the event. The whole vibe on the occasion felt festive and full of happy couples. But it’s always a pleasure to eat at Kuni Sushi. Price is great for the exquisite quality of the food. With our two cocktails, two delicious and generous appetizers, silky savory sliced black cod with side of rice, and darling dessert, our bill came to $84 before tip. Why go anywhere else?

The sashimi quality is high. Miso soup is really good as well. The back seating is pretty cute with Japanese style dividers between booths. The only small negative is that you can very easily hear other patrons conversations or arguments if they not being mindful of others.

I always walk out of Sushi Kuni with a big, satisfied smile on my face. Sushi is always the freshest around and it's always hard to decide what to eat because the menu is so creative and diverse. The service is always personable and top notch. Can't praise Sushi Kuni enough!

We were disappointed. The prices were very high and the food only mediocre. We ordered a roll without mayo. To our surprise the roll came to the table in less than 60 seconds (literally) and had the mayo on top. It was clear that the roll was not freshly made. We sent it back and it took close to 30 minutes for it to be redelivered. 3 rolls, 2 orders of sashimi and 2 appetizers was $200. The waitstaff was very pleasant and hard working. Unfortunately the value for the food and experience just wasn’t very good.

Highly recommend the food. The service staff seem to be evolving and not particularly well trained. Our server was ten days old. Part of the order forgotten. But, when asked about items on the menu, “I really don’t know” was the standard answer. But you can trust this, everything was so fresh and yummy.
