While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.

The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

The crispy spring rolls were delicious especially the dipping sauce. The portion was 5 2-bite pieces so on the small side for $18. The crab glass noodles had very little crab for $36 price and could have used more seasoning. The star was the baby bok choy and shiitake mushrooms. Service was excellent.

Had a lovely lunch at The Slanted Door. Food was excellent and so was the service. I will be back again soon. Highly recommend.

Have been a fan of Slanted Door since they opened their first location on Valencia in San Francisco and was pleasantly surprised that a search on Open Table resulted in their location in Napa. The food was excellent - shaking beef and daikon rice cakes are the usual go-to but the melt-in-your-mouth scallops are a must order. We all appreciated that the bok choy with mushrooms was cut into bite-size pieces avoiding the awkward struggle of biting into a whole or half bunch of leaves. The setting with the clean lines of slate was modern and having the dining area in a separate room from the large bar area made for a cozy and intimate experience for our party of 9 birthday celebration. Can't wait to go back!

Didn’t realize that having dinner at four we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the full dinner menu. A disappointment not having the opportunity to explore the entire menu on a Saturday evening. But, the food was exceptionally delicious and beautifully served. Also, service was slightly slow, maybe a staff shortage at this time of day, but at the prices charged, this should not be acceptable. Overall a 3 star experience.

Beautiful restaurant with continuously superb offerings. Don’t miss the cellophane noodles with crab. If possible dine outside in the beautiful patio. It can get loud inside with all of the hard surfaces. Menu differs from lunch to dinner.

We had lunch and we love their lunch menu. The chicken salad was outstanding and their beef Pho is one of the best I have ever tasted.

The food is always great and last night did not disappoint. The pork chop was tender and flavorful. Waiter great. The only downside were two large tables with loud people. Does not take away from the great food and service at any rate.
