Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Parties of over six guests are required to order from our sharing menu on Fridays on Saturdays. For bookings in December we require an order from one of our festive sharing menus. The food was great, but the duck was cold by the time we'd eaten the mixed platter. Asked if we wanted a 15 minute break between starters and the main course we said yes. 5 minutes later the main course arrived

From the moment we walked in, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Every dish was a highlight! The ambience tied it all together—warm, welcoming, and tastefully designed. Our second visit to this restaurant and once again very impressed with the service, delicious food and surroundings. Very friendly professional staff.

I found this place on Google, I had no prior knowledge but WOW what a gem. Fa ukous food and ambience. Service was exemplary.

Our server Maddie was excellent, accommodated me and my mother very well and made our dining experience very pleasant! Dinner, serving times, ambience, staff friendliness and overall experience 5/5 ! will definitely be back.
