Scott’s on the Richmond riverside is a seafood restaurant offering the finest oysters, fish and crustacea. Seasonal game, meat and vegetarian dishes also feature. Our fish are responsibly caught from sustainable sources. Tables overlook the Thames, alongside our elegant oyster and Champagne bar with the full à la carte menu being served throughout the day from 12 noon.

We booked the table at 7 and we were told at 8.20 that we needed to leave it in 10 minutes…..apparently there is a clock ticking from the minute you sit down, which makes the whole experience more like a sign in at a job than the pleasurable experience that you would expect in a restaurant of this category. I guess with this policy the minutes spent in bringing the food or drinks to the table should go into the “discounted time”….or a clock being placed at the table to stop the time from ticking if anything is delayed….? All very far from what could be considered as an elegant and fine dining experience

I expected more from Scott’s. Service was average- there was no warmth, it felt perfunctory. The decor ! 1920s Parisian bordello? Over decorated- copies of Renoir, Cezanne, Chagall. We had the Festive Prix Fixe and it was tasty but disappointing. Low lighting is fine, but in the loo? Splurge elsewhere.

The quality of the food was, as one would expect, of a high standard. The only suggestion is that the waiters pay attention to the wine consumption and ensure glasses are topped up. Failure to do so lengthened our lunch.

My daughters and I had a splendid lunch at Scott’s. Food was cooked to perfection but the Seabass from the children’s menu, fries and the roast ballotine of chicken was simply too salty. As usual, were too polite to complain and just drank lots of water. The Yule log was fantastic.
