At Sarto, we believe that poring over the details is always worth it; and that the joys of a meal go far beyond the food itself. In keeping with Italy’s authentic, old-world traditions, we’ve approached our menu in much the same way an Italian chef opening a restaurant here in America might ── with dishes composed of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, that honor our region in a modern way.

Prepared from an open concept kitchen, our menu features modern Italian fare made with the freshest local ingredients Rhode Island has to offer, complimented by award – winning wines and a carefully curated cocktail program.

Sarto is located just moments from local performing arts and convention centers in the historic Teste brownstone building. Originally built in 1860, our restaurant was once home to an apothecary, a money-to-loan business and later the Philip Wolfe Haberdasher, which inspired the name Sarto or tailor in Italian.

“Jazz It Up” with dinner, drinks and live music at the Sarto, as local trios perform hot Jazz from 8-11pm weekly on Saturdays. Out with a group? Perfect! Plan ahead and make online reservations for table service for you and your friends, so everyone has a seat during Jazz it up with Sarto! Heading to a show downtown? Be sure to stop by Sarto after the show and enjoy music, dessert or bar snacks and a late-night libation. As a proud supporter of local student musicians, Sarto will be booking college jazz groups to perform in the monthly calendar rotation. Are you a college student in a jazz group? 3 of us participated in the NYE event. We were a little disappointed from the time we got there until the time we left. We came 5 minutes prior to our reservation and we weren’t seated until 25 minutes after our reservation time. Keep in mind we paid $160 per person so $480 in total. While this included mostly everything that was said to be done. The food was not worth the money we paid up front for. We were seated upstairs and barely saw any of the ‘burlesque performance’ that was happening on the first floor. We did not get to break a plate at midnight. The DJ was not great and there was no dancing. I would have only gotten the $30 ticket if I knew that it was going to be disappointing. Not to mention the DJ was a minute late to the countdown for midnight and it was awkward when we were counting down upstairs and then a minute later we did it again. I haven’t been to this restaurant before so I don’t know what their everyday menu is like but the menu for events was not good at all (4/10). I do not recommend this place for the money asked for and experience we got. This is also just one review I’m sure other people enjoyed themselves but our experience was just not up to par.

I’m going to start out by saying all staff members were extremely courteous, pleasant and apologetic. It was New Year’s Eve, so the place gets a little bit of leeway, (hence two stars instead of one) but it was a total cluster. Our 9:15pm reservation got us seated at 10:00pm. Which, okay. NYE. But while they were wishing the tables from the early-seating would empty, there were no convenient places to wait. The bar was packed (with other hopeful late-seating diners), so there were no other places to stand but against occupied tables or at the hostess stand where we were in the way. Once we were seated the waiter told us that our oysters would be served immediately. We don’t eat oysters and had no idea that they were the first course because, although we tried, we couldn’t access the NYE menu online. Maybe we missed it but we tried multiple times to find something that would give us an idea of what we would be eating, to no avail. We were given focaccia as a replacement for the oysters (not a financial equitable replacement). After a significant wait, the third course (main course) came out before the second course (salad) which came out a minute after the main meal was served. This meant that our already small table was very crowded. The food was not memorable, just okay. The deejay was playing very loud electronic beat music, not my idea of dining music… but I guess it created a vibe. Once dessert(tasty) was finished, we just wanted to get out of there and back to our hotel before midnight. When we received the check, the focaccia was on our bill. We pointed it out to our waiter and he got it taken off, but come on!!! It was the replacement for the oysters and it was bread for God’s sake, not lobster! But again, NYE. Expectations are lowered. I have to assume under normal circumstances this restaurant has its act together and is a perfectly fine establishment.

They did not have our reservation, meaning they did not have a dinner table for us that we prepaid one week before the New Years Red Event. It made everything a bit awkward because we had to seat a high top , they forgot about us. They needed to be reminded to serve us, our server was wonderful and tried to make up for the indiscretion.

Went for NYE. Food was fine but had to wait 30 minutes for our first drink and then we were served our desserts without spoons. Took 15 minutes before finally someone brought them over after I asked. The wait time rendered one of the desserts very soggy and inedible. It’s time but there are other places to eat in Providence.

For $95 per person, excluding drinks, and a prefix menu, we expected fabulous! Despite having sent an explicit message and calling the restaurant in advance to let them know about our food allergies, they clearly did nothing to accommodate or offer substitutions. We had no choice but to settle for the one dish that they could serve GF and dairy free, but without the sides or sauce it came with. It was plain, served room temperature, with broccoli rabe that was so tough you’d need a steak knife to cut it. The thing we did enjoy tremendously was the live jazz music, which would have made it all worth it had the food been consistent with a fine dining experience.

We got stuck in bad weather on our way down from Boston. Sarto accommodated us even though we were nearly an hour late! Food and service were incredible!
