Welcome to Pueo’s Osteria, an Italian-inspired, inviting restaurant that provides great food, prepared from scratch daily, complimented with a stocked wine list and set in a delightful osteria environment. Co-Proprietor & Chef James Babian focuses on original creative dishes, pairing the finest, authentic Italian products with select seafood, produce and meats from boutique farms (sourced locally whenever possible), including “farm-fresh” products from local farmers’ markets.
Pueo's is located at the new Waikoloa Plaza in Waikoloa Village with ample free parking and designated pick-up stalls right outside the restaurant.
The "Pueo" is a nocturnal owl indigenous to Hawaii, which symbolizes Chef's focus on serving dinner and into the evening hours. Pueo's Osteria caters to locals and visitors via sit-down, bar and take-out. Engaging service, approachable pricing, great flavors and a lively atmosphere await at Pueo’s Osteria – food, wine & fun … "where the night owls meet."

    Food was amazing. Had to wait a few minutes (ten?) after our reservation, no biggie - first seating was finishing up. Service was super friendly but slow, I think they were short handed. But it is Hawaii, be nice to everyone. Already planning our return!

    Enjoyed a birthday celebration with friends. The staff were wonderful and the food was outstanding. It’s a bit of a drive from Kona, but well worth it.

    We had a 7pm reservation on a Thursday night and the place was packed, with a line out the door. There was so much noise inside that it was a relief to be seated outside, even though the view was cars and road. We ordered chicken Milanese for me and soup and salad for my husband that he asked to be served together. The soup came out 45 min later. The salad and chicken Milanese came over 1 hour after we'd ordered it. There was no communication by the waiter, no apology, no discount or comped item. The Milanese was so-so. The capers made it too sour, there were insufficient tomatoes, and the waiter grudgingly provided more parmesan upon request and even then whisked it away before sufficient additional cheese was provided. Overall I give it a C minus and would not go back.

    Great food. Sitting outside was preferred - especially after sunset. Staff was nice but expect super sow service - over 30 minutes to order a drink or food, 30 more minutes for even the bread to arrive, and no one checking in on you after you get your meal.

    Highly recommend., reservations required. Great Italian dining, starting with the home made bread, police pile and balsamic, wonderful! We then had a caprese salad also wonderful, fresh tomatoes with Taste!! Pesto and. Balsamic and best we had all trip. I had carbonara with pancheta that was unique and tasty, wife had the wild boar ragu. Large portions!! Service good. Only disappointment was no super Tuscan which she tried to substitute with Sangeovese which did not cut it

    We arrived and were seated out on the covered lanai which was much quieter than inside where most of the crowd was. In addition to smaller tables there were 3 large tables set up outside so they expected a large party to arrive soon. We had a beautiful sunset and enjoyed a nice bottle of Rose. We started off sharing their version of a caprese with locally grown tomatoes. It was tasty, but the tomatoes seemed a little tough as they were in chunks not slices. Maybe they ran out of the local variety and had to substitute? For our next course we shared the squid ink pasta with prawns and we both savored this. For our mains my wife enjoyed the pesto pizza with Kale, and I had the Duroc Pork chop with herb polenta. The chop was tasty but needed to be cut with a steak knife, so maybe not as tender as I had hoped for but still quite good. The polenta was nice and flavorful. About the time the mains were delivered the wedding party for all those large tables arrived and it got very noisy and difficult to find our server who was probably overwhelmed by the large party. Overall a nice experience but a little noisy as we finished.

    Positive reviews and interesting menu motivated the first time visit. The dining room and lanai were full upon arrival but we were seated at our reservation time and greeting promptly. The server was cordial and attentive and the crowd thinned during the 90 minutes that we spent there. When entrees had not arrived after 60 minutes, we were surprised and dismayed. When food did arrive, the pizza was hot and fresh but the very small bowl of overpriced carbonara was not. At this point, we were not interested in waiting longer and will have to decide whether to return.

    We waited over one hour for a pizza, food was mediocre. Waitress was almost non existent, very disappointing.
