Proper 21, brought to DC from the New York City restaurateurs Rob Zahn and Will Strozier that own Manhattan Proper and Proper West, opened in early October 2016. Located at 1319 F Street NW, Proper 21 is a high end sports bar serving All American classics with a gourmet twist. Proper 21 is the third location of NIEUW Group Inc.

Like its predecessors, located in New York City, Proper 21 serves contemporary American cuisine. The space maintains the modern aesthetic and New York style of the Manhattan locations, which have best been described as Tom Ford meets Thomas Edison. The restaurant provides the best audio & visual for sports, corporate functions, nightlife and other events.

Proper 21 requests reservations be made 45 minutes in advance.

First timer - service was good and we even got fresh coffee. Food was excellent. The birria huevos rancheros was delicious.

There were a lot of TV’s, but we sat in the back and were spared the visuals. The food was great, the service was prompt and efficient. A very enjoyable experience.

The food and service were fabulous. Unfortunately, they were out of many of the menu items which was disappointing. They were much busier than usual for a Sunday due to a large meeting that was occurring in DC. It is a great atmosphere, but a little on the loud side making conversation a bit challenging.

As a National Theater subscriber, I’m always looking for places to go for a bite beforehand. I like the vibe and the food was good. The service was another story. The dining room was not packed, and there were several empty tables nearby. We had to get our server’s attention to order, to get water and to get our check. I will try again, but the first experience was a little disappointing.

Wonderful visit. Grilled octopus was superb. The salmon cake was freshly made and had really good flavour.
