Petersham Nurseries is a lifestyle destination that includes a plant nursery, an elegant greenhouse restaurant offering set menus for all diners, a shop selling exquisite antiques, homewares and gifts and a teahouse offering wholesome seasonal dishes and homemade cakes.

It is a place of calm, away from the bustle of London, that respects and is in tune with nature and positive living.

The Boglione family, who own the nurseries and live in the adjoining Petersham House are rooted to their blend of British and Italian culture which remains at the heart of the business and is reflected in the style of the food that is served. Petersham Nurseries Café is inspired by what is growing in our kitchen garden and by the produce supplied to us by our sister company, Haye Farm.

Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, fauna and responsibly sourced produce they have created an unparalleled setting just outside of central London.

The closest train station is Richmond Station which is a National Rail and Underground station on the Waterloo to Reading line and District Line. From Richmond Station it is a leisurely 25 minute walk along the Thames, or a short trip on the No. 65 bus which departs frequently from the bus stop outside Richmond Station.

Amazing ambience, gorgeous food and attentive staff. The only thing that spoiled it was the huge dog very close to our table that the owner didn’t think necessary to tame. I think it’s best if they allow dogs this size to have a designated part of the restaurant as not everyone enjoys them breathing on their table.

I’ve been coming to Petersham Nurseries for 15 years. Yes it’s very expensive and a proper treat to eat in the magical restaurant - but this is the first time I’ve ever felt short changed. A set 3 course menu and some elderflower presse for 2 people is approaching, which in itself is not a new thing (although it has gone up significantly in the last 3 years), as the food is beautiful and perfect and in the most gorgeous setting of any restaurant in this country. However, this time the food was pretty average. Really. Actually average. No better than any other decent restaurant in London and on a par with some of the better gastropubs. My chicken was actually a bit dry and my daughter’s steak was very fatty. Her brownie pudding was divine but my sorbet was full of unappealing crystals and nothing looked quite as pretty as it used to. At the table next to us a man was making a big loud fuss over his meal which was taken away and taken off his bill. This did not add to the feeling of value for money and we also felt a bit rushed and ignored. Why? Because we weren’t spending a million pounds on wine? Because I don’t frequent once a week? I don’t know. I have loved and cherished every meal I’ve had at Petersham Nurseries, but this one I won’t. And I won’t be back for a while either - better off with a coffee and a wander round instead.

We’d heard great things about the restaurant. So booked our anniversary lunch here. Whilst the food was good (not amazing, good) it was ridiculously overpriced. The restaurant is shabby chic, but at those prices it should have been smarter. Not wobbly tables, next to a glasshouse that looks like it’s seen better days. The servers were polite, but why they bothered asking when you book if it is a special occasion is beyond me - except if I hear from them in a years’ time! - as no mention was made of the fact it was a special occasion. We won’t be going back.
