There were 4 of us, everyone ordered something different and everyone enjoyed what they ate. The specialty mojito was especially good! As was the corned beef eggroll! Gabriella was our server and she was great. And 2 other gentlemen (owners? managers?) stopped by to check on us and our food and they were terrific! That doesn't happen very often -

I really wanted to like Pao, but I honestly would not return unfortunately. The restaurant is beautiful, quiet, and the food tasted great… BUT, our server could not answer any questions we had, for example “are any of the bottles of Sake offered, served warm?” “What Japanese beers do you offer?” Etc.. She had to go to the back to ask. I just had higher expectations at a fine dining establishment. Taste of food and dishes was great, but portion sizes are very small and the expensive price tag does not align with that. The menu is pretty small as well, it would be nice if they had a few more options. I compared Pao to P.F. Chang’s in my head, and for the price, i would go to Chang’s instead of Pao.

Service was really terrible , lamb chops sent back because they were well done they brought the same ones back instead of remaking them. Filet was also overcooked. The server really was terrible also We spent over $800 would think service would be better. Taste of the rest of the food was good though

We went for dinner right before a Lions game. It is very conveniently located and got us out of the chaos of downtown Detroit right before a game. (100% of the folks there were also going to the game.) The service was excellent, drinks were excellent, it's in a super cool space, but the food was really just average at best. I got the Kung Pao chicken and it was really below what you would get at a good Chinese takeout restaurant. The lettuce wrap were also just average. I love lettuce wraps and we didn't even eat all of ours because they just weren't that good. Super bland. I would go back because of all the other positives but, don't expect a stellar meal.

We had an outstanding experience. We arrived early and the gracious Manger unlocked the door to let us wait inside out of the bitter cold. Service was timely and very polite. Food was absolutely amazing, we will definitely be bringing our friends back to experience this amazing place.
