Moon Rabbit is a highly-regarded Vietnamese restaurant situated in the heart of Washington D.C., drawing inspiration from the virtuous rabbit depicted in the Buddhist Jataka tale. Led by acclaimed Chef Kevin Tien, the restaurant embodies an innovative approach to Vietnamese cuisine, showcasing a menu that is both unique and complex. I don’t often leave reviews but as this spot is a favorite among many close friends & has come highly recommended I was very excited to try for my husbands birthday + Valentines Day yet left…underwhelmed. I would say overall our experience was just ok - especially considering we traveled out of town to DC. The spot is gorgeous & love that the menu was inclusive of the 14th only with everything cooked perfectly. Service however was inconsistent - some of our servers were so thorough & friendly while others were just ok. I heard adjacent tables receiving enthusiastic recommendations, while ours felt like “what do you want - it’s been a long day” for lack of a better example. At one point I ordered an almost $30 cocktail & the highlight was to make sure I used the lid to sit the filter on so residual mess didn’t drip on the table. With the gratuity already included on the bill I would expect a higher, more consistent standard. We’ve also been to many places to treat ourselves each year during Valentine’s Day and it always feels very special & worthy of the premium pricing - extra treats, palette cleansers. complimentary bubbles etc. After watching social for LNY & the like, I was surprised to say the least that they stuck strictly to the menu except for (the surprise of a shared main course only) & a penny sized puff pastry with the bill. I would perhaps try again on a non-holiday if I were in the area already but wouldn’t recommend the special trip. There are far too many restaurants in DC at a similar price point with free parking & exceptional service!

First time/experience and loved everything about it. It’ll become a favorite place to come back to as a local and to bring out of town guests. Thank you for chefs that love what they do as people like myself can taste it through the food that you curate on your menu.

Amazing amazing amazing - can’t wait to go back. Usually reviews are about the food - which was truly wonderful in taste and presentation and accommodation of gluten intolerance - but service can often enhance or ruin a meal. And in this case the service only enhanced our experience so thanks for a great birthday evening, and the chance to contribute to the victims of the tragic LA wildfires.

Fantastic meal with amazing service! Every dish is superb, and all made with such great precision and care. Chef Kevin is outstanding and we always love returning to Moon Rabbit whenever we get a chance. Also, the desserts are a must!!

The service was excellent, as was the wine and most of the dishes. I wasn't a big fan of the scallops or the vegan appetizer cubes but my wife enjoyed both. Overall an excellent dining experience.
