Moon Rabbit is a highly-regarded Vietnamese restaurant situated in the heart of Washington D.C., drawing inspiration from the virtuous rabbit depicted in the Buddhist Jataka tale. Led by acclaimed Chef Kevin Tien, the restaurant embodies an innovative approach to Vietnamese cuisine, showcasing a menu that is both unique and complex.     We tried Moon Rabbit for lunch (not easy to get a dinner reservation) and it was a perfect experience. The decor is simple, beautiful, spacious, and welcoming. The servers were gracious & helpful but not intrusive. Flatware and plates were changed frequently like they are in a Michelin-star restaurant. The food was SO creative, not overly salty nor smothered with garlic. Portions were just right for sampling multiple offerings and sharing between 2 people. We had the Chinese broccoli & the squash salad, the stuffed leaves, the mussels, the catfish & the fried chicken. All superb. We had room for dessert and actually ended up trying all 3 offerings. I cannot choose a favorite! None was too rich or too much. We also enjoyed their wine selection which matched very well with the Vietnamese cuisine.

    Moon Rabbit was truly outstanding. Interesting dishes with amazing flavors, exceptional cocktails, friendly and professional staff. It isn’t cheap, and it shouldn’t be - it’s a unique and elevated experience, worth the cost! I can’t wait to go back!

    And be of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The staff was amazing.. the food was incredible and the pairings were fantastic!

    We went there on New Year's Eve for a late dinner. The place was very crowded, but we had a reservation for 930 PM. It took them 20 mins to get us seated. We recognized that the restaurant was very busy, but we didn't appreciate the way guests were being seated out of sequence rather than managing guests by their reservation time. For a James Beard recognized establishment, I was expecting a better reception service, We weren't impressed by the quality of food either. There was a three course pre-fixe menu for New Year's Eve. The options were somewhat limited; it sounded great on the menu, but we were disappointed by the quality. Food was salty and the entree came lukewarm. I'm not sure if the New Year Eve's business got the best of this establishment, but I was expecting a lot more quality and better service based on all the rave reviews and a James Beard finalist.

    Amazing as always. Moon Rabbit is our favorite DC restaurant and loved spending New Years there!

    One of the top 3 meals we’ve had in DC over past 30 years. Definitely a place for special occasion - the $85 tasting menu is outstanding and good value. Only the delicious and interesting cocktails pushed our bill up into a top tier in cost. Great service and I appreciated that it was quiet enough to have normal conversation.
