Mestizo brings modern Oaxacan food to Cambridge. Mestizo’s passionate spirit, vibrant food, and strong family roots will leave you with a memorable experience driven by a mix of old and new flavors. Influences will change from dish to dish with some distinctly driven by Oaxaca heritage, while others will have clearer origins in other Mexican or even Spanish regions.

This isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant but you will find some familiar dishes and flavors that will allow you to feel at home while still exploring something new and finding your NEXT favorite foods. Mestizo is about mixing and remixing flavors, ingredients, and cultures. It’s not about rigidly adhering to one particular place or time.

This is a relatively new restaurant and they are still figuring some things out. It was not very busy for a Saturday night. However, the food and margaritas were very good and delicious. The service was a little slow given how empty the restaurant was. I will give this restaurant another chance to see if they pick up steam and fine-tune their operation. It is worth a visit. All in all, I give it a good-to-very good rating.

Our group enjoyed all of the delicious shared plates and each of our entrées. The drinks were all very tasty and we loved the desserts- flan & tres leches!

The queso was different than expected but so good. Tacos were good but small. The drinks were very good my friend had the La Diva and loved it. I had the passionfruit mocktail and it was delicious

This was our first visit to Mestizo. We will be going back. It was an unusual evening; major traffic gridlock all over Boston and Cambridge because of red line shutdown and very cold, windy rainstorm. I believe these factors reduced the number of customers, perhaps making the restaurant quieter and less crowded. Service was excellent, quick and attentive. I was not familiar with Oaxacan cuisine but I liked it a lot and will be going back on a more “normal” evening. Decor was bright and cheerful.

Enjoyed what we ordered. For folks needing to get there by car, there is no on street parking. So, you have to park in a parking garage which adds to the cost.

Thank you for your review! We recommend taking memorial drive and taking the exit onto Main St. around the corner from the restaurant. There is two hour street parking there.

Really excellent authentic Oaxacan food. Chiles en nogada were the real thing. Especially appreciated tetelas which are hard to find outside of Oaxaca. Mole was good as well. Mezcal was a little pricey, but several choices.
