Meat & Potatoes is a high end gastropub in downtown Pittsburgh. Its kitchen takes as its inspiration the idea of elevating comfort food to a gourmet level. Its chefs are inspired by fresh, seasonal ingredients and its bar staff creates innovative cocktails and serves a range of wines by the glass and draught beers, as well. The menu at Meat & Potatoes is a new take on basic. There are classic appetizers like fried pickles, grilled bread and fried Brussels sprouts, as well as more innovative fare like fried pigs ear and buttermilk fried chicken liver. Meat & Potatoes mains include pot roast, salmon and lamb neck cassoulet.

Everything was great except the lobster bisque. It tasted more like tomato soup. The steak was very good. The waitress was terrific.

$165 tomahawk was overcooked. They offered to cook a new one or provide free dessert, but they should've just comped the steak or given me half off. They also asked us to leave as we got close to 2 hours, which I find obnoxious since we were continuing to buy drinks.

Dakota was our server again and I was very happy to see him. He once again provided great service and was very helpful with his recommendations. The only downside to the night was that there were no specials. We hope when we come back this will be different. Other than that, it was a great night and we'll be back in January!

Very good Caesar salad! Wine pours looked to be only about three ounces. Pots de crème dessert was wonderful!
