Mauka Makai is a culinary experience celebrating the farming and fishing culture of ancient Hawai"i. Ancient Hawaiians drew their sustenance-physical and spiritual- from the land and sea around them. Seafood provided the primary protein in the Hawaiian diet, complementing staples such as taro, sweet potato and breadfruit. This sets the stage for Mauka Makai - toward the mountain, toward the ocean.

The buffet or limited menu was all that was available on Thanksgiving. The buffet had very little to choose from. It certainly should not have cost $85! No vegetables except Brussels, no bread rolls. I had veggie curry since there was nothing for me to eat in buffet as I don’t eat meat or fish, I counted 4 pieces of zucchini, 2 red pepper pieces, 2 green bell pepper pieces and 3 pieces of eggplant. A small 1/2 cup of rice for $28. I was starving…

Very pleasant dining experience at the resort restaurant. Food quality was great and service was excellent. Beautiful ocean view also helped.

The restaurant is right off the pool of the Westin Nanea property so the view is wonderful. The night my husband and I ate here, there was a live singer who was excellent. The menu wasn’t extensive and I so there had been more options but we both enjoyed what we ate. My husband had noodles with shrimp and vegetables. There wasn’t a lot of shrimp but the dish was tasty and the noodles tasted freshly made. Really great dish. I had the curry with the fish of the day. I would have preferred more sauce but the dish overall was also very flavorful. The service was spotty but luckily, we ate a little later so the staff was little lighter than I assume during busy times.

Great Sunset Dinner! Staying @ Nanea for first time and wanted to really enjoy the Nanea experience. After a day at the Pool and Beach it was so convenient to simply get ready, go downstairs and enjoy a great Dinner. The wedge Salad was so big that we were able to split it with friend’s. The main courses were great. Then Dessert! That Mudd Pie was so big and delicious that I actually asked for a box to take back to the room. We would definitely come back as well as recommend our waiter Shawn who was very attentive and gave us great service.

Outstanding high quality meal. Wonderful flavors. I had the scallop risotto and my husband had the swordfish and both were excellent.

Great food in a beautiful setting. We tried the wedge salad….it was huge!! We shared. Then had the ribeye. Ordered medium, a bit over cooked but still tasty. Side weee good too. And the burger, great beef. Topped it all off with the mid pie!
