Manta is the signature restaurant of the iconic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and has breathtaking views of the Kohala Coast. The menu is a curation of Pacific Rim cuisine with seasonal, local, and sustainably-produced ingredients.
Chef Bryan Nagao has gained formidable reputation in the international food community. He was once described by American media as "the most notable figures in rendering Modern Asian cuisine in the Northern hemisphere". The creativity permeating his cuisine stems from the diversity of his culinary background. Bryan's cuisine is a multi-faceted reflection of his Hawai'i Island birthplace, his Japanese ancestry, and decades spent in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong and Taipei.

Una de mis experiencias mas agradables. Primera vez en Hawaii (Kona island) y aunque la noche empezó mal (mucho viento y sin posibilidad de ver el atardecer por la lluvia) tuvimos paciencia y poco a poco el clima mejoró. Estuvimos esperando en el bar a que nuestra mesa quedara lista. El ambiente muy tranquilo, clima agradable ya que la lluvia cesó y después de nuestras bebidas y por al retraso de la espera (entendible por el clima, mas de la mitad de las mesas están afuera del restaurante), la host no nos cobró las bebidas y a partir de ahi todo fue maravilloso. Las bebidas, el entremés, las costillas de cordero, el pez dorado... en fin. Mi esposa y yo quedamos muy contentos y aunque el precio es caro, valió la pena. Si tuvieramos oportunidad de regresar a Kona, definitivamente buscaríamos cenar nuevamente en el Manta. 1000% recomendable.

The setting of this restaurant is immaculate. Unfortunately, that’s where the story ends. The food is good if wholly unremarkable — it certainly wasn’t worth the price paid. The fish was well cooked and pleasant, and the cocktail was delicious. The service was SLOW SLOW SLOW. Be prepared to wait for quite a while… for everything. The server was also unapologetic about the lengthy delays. They did not describe the specials well or make recommendations; in fact, my party felt judged for not choosing to order starters. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Great view and location. Good service. Menu is small, wine list limited. We enjoyed our meal, oysters, catch of the day and macadamia mahi. I recommend trying!

The property is beautiful and so expensive. The Restaurant vibe couldn’t be more beautiful. You walk down the path and see the manta rays feeding. The staff is relaxed, but still attentive and very friendly. The menu was more innovative than other restaurants I’ve seen on the island.
