La Foret offers fine French dining in an old country setting. We are proudly now offering outdoor dining!!!The historically significant building rests next to a quietly meandering stream in the verdant foothills of New Almaden. La Foret ha an extensive wine list, which includes French and Napa Valley selections. It offers a tasting menu and brunch on Sundays.

This restaurant has private rooms for catering banquet-style private events. It also hosts weddings with capacity for up to 130 guests.

Disappointing for the price ($500 for 2). I'd recently spent a week in Paris, hopping between bistros in the Marais, and was hoping to get some of that vibe here, too. But it was not to be: this felt like food from a few decades ago. Our waitress was the high spot. She switched some dishes around for us in the 6-course tasting menu and a shared $95 wine pairing. She was attentive and helpful, and dismayed when she found out that dishes were being dropped on our table with no more than "careful - the plates are hot" (they were untouchable). At this price level, I'd expect an amuse bouche or two - but no: we were brought some Veuve Cliquot champagne (all the pours were half glasses) and some underwhelming bread, and then left for several minutes until the first course arrived. That was tasty - but would have been good as course #3 or 4, not the first one: the heavy sauce overwhelmed the wine. The wines were apparently selected by brand, with no attenmpt to explain why they might have been paired with the food. A slightly underwhelming butter-lettuce salad followed; this one got an description, but a couple of slices of radish was hardly worth the effort. The beef tartare course was the most subtle - although the meat was brown, and I couldn't detect any of the promised truffle. The elk was the high point: tender, bathed in a dark, rich sauce that the house style was well suited to. Australian rack of lamb was generous, but covered in a rich salty gravy, not a "natural jus", and accompanied by a brown rice thingy that was too salty to eat, a weirdly sweet carrot, and some slightly overcooked asparagus. (We were offered a replacement, but we decided that we didn't want to prolong things.) Dessert was a slice of chocolate tart, noticeable more for its weight than any subtlety. A half-bottle of Pinot Noir ($31 at retail) to take away was nice, but not enough. Other diners seemed to enjoy themselves. We won't be back.

The food, service, and ambiance were all very good. One small complaint is that my expensive ribeye was overcooked. I ordered medium rare and it came out with hardly any pink at all. It was still good. But it could have been great. I also ordered the rack of lamb which was cooked medium rare to perfection. Delicious!

Geart place for dinner. Food was great, elk was magnificent! Our party was probably the loudest there; we were having a great time and we laughed out loud. Our waiter, Alan was the most excellent!!!

For my wife(who is a fantastic cook) to say that the food was as good or better than she could make is the highest compliment I could make. We celebrated my wife's birthday and couldn't have enjoyed it more!

We were a party of 11 and we tested our server Sean through out the evening. The service was exceptional considering some in our group had tasting menus, some a la carte and some did both! And people were always getting up for pictures or to talk with other family members. Everyone enjoyed the food including the caviar, lobster, ahi, elk, venison and of course the soufflé. La Foret is a wonderful place to celebrate the holidays. This was my third visit on Christmas but for most of our group it was all brand new and will be quite the memory for them.

This was an amazing experience. The service and food was perfect, the staff was attentive and so nice. I would highly recommend this restaurant especially for a special occasion.

We’ve been to La Foret many, many times and always had a great experience/amazing food. This time we came to celebrate a 9th anniversary and unfortunately, it was subpar— we left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. Details and experiences listed below impacted our view of the restaurant and left us with a mediocre experience. 1. We had a reservation made for 8:30pm, arrived on time just to be told that our table was not yet set-up and it took about 17 minutes to be seated. This wasn’t the biggest issue just we generally get seated right away with reservations. 2. The seating we had wasn’t the best, we were in a smaller room with a total of 3 tables and we could hear conversations and noise echo throughout the small room. Our table was at the wall at an exit door with a thick red curtain that kept getting in the way when eating. 3. The food was not as good as we remembered. The only good food that was worth what we paid was the Prauns Meunière — prauns were cooked perfectly and sauce was delicious and went well with the butter and sourdough bread. I got the Wild Boar and my partner got the American Wagyu and both were definitely different and not in a good way. My Wild Boar sauce had a bitterness and almost chard burned flavor that was so overpowering for the pork. My partner’s American Wagyu was slightly charred on the top so it had a thick and dry crust and only had a small section that was cooked rare like he requested. For it being a $100+ entree we would expect it to be perfectly cooked. Additionally the mixed vegetables for both of our entrees were unseasoned sautéed onion, bell peppers, and zucchini. The mixed veggies were awkward and didn’t go well with the boar or beef. We thought the veggies clashed with the dishes and overall cheapened the dishes into tasting like a take-out stir fry. 4. It was our 9th anniversary which we mentioned in reservation and in-person and nothing special was done or offered to celebrate our day. We will not be returning.

We have been going to this restaurant for 20 years. Its good but expensive. We saw their discount cards at Costco and so bought them and brought the whole family. But was surprised that La Foret included Dec 21 as a black out date for the cards and would not accept them for payment. Buying these cards is an act of trust and loyalty because they are non-refundable. We have purchased a lot of restaurant discount cards over the years at Costco for other restaurants and never had an issue with blackout dates. Anyone can check online, and in fact I double-checked this morning on the Costco site with several other restaurants - no mention of blackout dates. So it is unusual for these cards, offered by restaurants thru Cosco. To be clear, the La Foret card DOES list the blackout dates in small type on the back of its card. However, it seems unusual practice compared to the other cards provided in this channel, and so we missed it. Under these circumstances, we would have liked to see La Foret honor their cards. Instead, our experience ended with disappointment.
