A pioneer of the izakaya dining experience in Canada, KINKA IZAKAYA first opened in the winter of 2009, introducing Toronto to the world of Japanese pubs. Our server made us feel as if we were being a bother to them when asking for simple things such as more than 1 menu for a group of 5. Spicy sauce was asked for and were told “no” abruptly. Food options very limited. Food items come out in a weird range of timing. How does sushi and fried chicken come out so quick and French fries takes about 12 more minutes. I’ve been in hospitality for over 15 years I’d never go back or would recommend this place.

Really beautiful place. I’d recommend the floor sitting rather than the table sitting as it gets really crowded and packed. Then again it could be because I went on a Friday night. But overall the food was amazing, the vibe and ambiance was amazing and inexpensive too. Parking was difficult though as it was downtown

I haven’t been to Kinka in awhile and was disappointed this time. The staff no longer greet you with a loud « irrashaimase ! » nor do they sing their old happy birthday song nor do they all yell « arigatou gozaimasu » when you leave. I was informed by our server that the restaurant no longer employs Japanese people. The menu is not as extensive (where is gomae?) and no longer has a Japanese flair with lots of pictures and fun text. The food was excellent though! Our server was great at the beginning and then, disappeared. It was difficult to get our bill. All in all, it was a disappointing experience. That said, I will surely go back due to the fun atmosphere. I would consider hiring back Japanese people as they are excellent workers and add an authentic flair, fun, and energy to what is supposed to be an izakaya!

We had a superb experience last night, the welcoming presence of the staff was very warm and courteous. The food are excellent, we enjoyed every single serving. I love the ambiance of the authentic Japanese set up very comfortable. And most of all they're party shooters with the hapoy birthday song was awesome. Kinka staff and to the people who sang to grace my birthday..THANK YOU SO MUCH! I HAD A BLAST.. YOU MADE MY DAY EXTRA SPECIAL...

We celebrated my daughter’s 30th bday and the staff was super Accommodating in allowing us to make the evening special for her. Can’t say enough good things about our experience and the food is so delicious. For 7 people without tip it came to $400CA which is great value for the amount we drank ate!! Highly recommend this restaurant!
