It is a compound word consisting of "i" (to stay) and "sakaya" (sake shop), indicating that izakaya originated from sake shops that allowed customers to sit on the premises and drink.

This is one of our very favorite spots in town. The food NEVER disappoints. The cold broccoli salad is truly one of the best dishes on the menu, but we have never had a bite of food that was less than divine. The service is always phenomenal, and the entire staff is friendly, attentive, and professional. One of Denver's best!

Definitely a top favorite dining experience in Denver. Excellent service from the host to the servers. Helpful but not intrusive- much like an izakaya experience in Japan. Ambience is great- easy to hold conversation and a great playlist going in the background. There isn’t a bad choice on the menu- who would know you could improve edamame but the curry one is absolutely addictive. The shaved broccoli and spam bao were also stand outs. Great selection of Japanese beer.

Sezchuan Dumplings and Melopan for dessert were amazing! Would come back just for those two things!

Our server Clayton was very attentive and made some great recommendations for our group. Everything was delicious and we liked the pacing of the courses. We definitely are excited to come back and try more things on the menu!

Wow. Probably one of the best meals I’ve had in Denver. Can’t believe I was sleeping on this place until now. We had the cucumber salad, the kung pow karaage chicken and the kimchi udon and the chicken bao buns. The kung pow karaage chicken was some of the juiciest best chicken I’ve ever had. The real show stopper was the kimchi udon though, was so creamy with the perfect amount of spice and really, really satisfying. Our server, Day, was great, and it was an extra lovely bonus that they have Japanese toilets that have warmers and bidets! Even using the bathroom at this restaurant is a 5 star experience. We went on Jan 1st as well which could have been busy and chaotic but the service was great and things came out pretty perfectly timed. Portions are also big! We got 4 items as a party of 2 and had to take a lot home as leftovers.
