An intimate and unique Japanese fine dining experience that makes you forget you’re in the heart of LES.
With influence from the Hida region of Japan, KAIKAGETSU NYC specializes in the prized Hida Beef and offers Kaiseki- Japanese courses made of hot and cold dishes.
Courses change every month or sometimes more, depending on seasonal ingredients and chef’s discretion.
Reservations are not required but highly recommended. Gluten free and vegan courses are put on hold due to post-COVID staffing but please inquire to see what is possible. For those looking for a more elevated experience, ask about our Getsu course! These require reservations at least 7 days prior to dine date with $70 deposit.
A limited number of omakase (chef’s choice) a la carte set plate is now available each day - no reservations are required. This would be great to have a taste of Kaikagetsu with a drink. If you have children, please let us know beforehand! We may be able to do something special-

We had such an amazing dinner at Kaikagetsu! Every detail of our experience from the sourcing of the ingredients, the preparation of the food, the dish ware selected for presentation, and the sake recommendations were incredibly thoughtful and well executed. As someone who used to work in fine dining, I was really impressed that our dinner did not just feel like a meal but an experience where the quality of the ingredients and sincerity of the hospitality really shined through. A huge hats off to the team! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening :) we will definitely be back

I really enjoy the Okinawa tea and Hokkaido scallop offered by the restaurant. The ambiance is quiet, and the service is very attentive. However, there's definitely room for improvement. Since it is my first time having Kaiseki, I was expecting a more unique experience. Although other dishes are okay, I feel the Sukiyaki could have more vegetables to reduce the oiliness of the Wagyu and be cooked in front of the customer to enhance their experience. Lastly, the matcha ice cream lacks novelty for Kaiseki. I believe more delicately designed desserts could be offered, such as a crafted chestnut cake or peach shaved ice I have had in other restaurants before.

I love kaiseki - a Japanese multicourse meal centered around seasonal ingredients - and I'd been meaning to go here because I was drawn in by the photo of the tabletop konro. Kaikagetsu's specialty is Hida Beef, a very high quality wagyu beef, and they feature it with miso, in sukiyaki, and in sushi. The beef is amazing - the best 9 pieces of beef you'll ever have. But I also recommend Kaikagetsu for the service. They put a lot of attention and care into their food and treat guests well. It is model Japanese hospitality: omotenashi. The plates are whisked away as soon as you're finished, your place setting is wiped and a new dish arrives. I wanted the traditional sukiyaki accompaniment of an egg and they whipped it up. I started coughing and they refilled my cup with Okinawan herbal tea. Kaikagetsu is a special place and wonderful experience!

We have come for my wife's birthday on four or five occasions now. We are glad to support the business and appreciate the level of service received on each visit. The cost (what with inflation etc) is becoming onerous but one feels more value could be received as the menu is not too unchanged from when it cost (~90 4 years or so back) pp vs now (+~170) and there is less food each time. We recognized certain sakes as not really deserving of being charged +50 etc for a carafe. Noted that a simple gin cocktail could not be made although it was on the menu and there appeared to be a bartender present. This is an industry wide phenomneon and has as much to do with the lack of commercial lease ceilings in NYC as any one restaurant. 7.5/10.

Had their set menu plan which was seven courses. Although each course looked small mainly due to the plating, the food was more than enough to fill you up. High quality meat and seafood satisfied the appetite. Service was all done by 1 waiter who was attentive and methodical in every step. From serving to cleaning, it was done in a very classy manner. The ambiance is a little dark as the lighting almost made my sleepy with all the food but it had a good vibe. $ 170 per person is well worth the price.

Food was nothing to remember, but definitely felt over priced. The beef dishes were disappointing. Also, AC wasn’t working that evening, it was almost too hot to eat. The restaurant had 2 small portable units, but would have been nice to know ahead of time & allow us to rebook instead. Only 2 other tables here that night, vibe inside wasn’t the best either.

Our AC unit is temperamental and when we know beforehand, we do try to notify our customers prior to their visit, but sometimes the unit suddenly changes its mind. We apologize again for the discomfort. If you can please elaborate on the disappointing beef dishes and vibe it would be most helpful.
