Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.

As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.

The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

We enjoyed our inaugural visit to Judith’s very much. It is always nice when you are able to make a reservation, be seated promptly and have the luxury of pacing the cocktails, appetizers, entrees and dessert to your liking in able to relish and share a new dining experience with friends and family. Menu options and presentation reflect that there is a lot of care and consideration given to each dish.

Loved our first visit to Judith! Drinks were fantastic! Highly recommend the oysters and bread with chili oil! Entrees were superb- trout and steak were delicious! Can’t wait to return and test some of the rest of the menu!

Our experience at Judith was exceptional, the Caesar salad in particular was one of the best I’ve ever had. Oysters were amazing, the pasta was incredible. Cant wait to go back !

The food was outstanding. Really, amazing. We were seated right next to the entrance, which was not ideal, yet, still a wonderful experience. Server was a little nervous at the start and not familiar with the bourbon choices. She settled in and was fine. A delightful evening.

We had an outstanding meal at Judith. Even for an well-established restaurant, the service, food quality, and overall experience would have been exceptional. Our waiter, Hunter, was great. Kudos to Julia Sullivan - thank you for bringing a great restaurant to the mountain!

Great new upscale edition to Sewanee’s restaurant scene! All aspects were excellent (cocktails, apps, entrees, and service).

Delighted to have this wonderful addition on the mountain. Oyster app to start. Delicious sourdough bread service. And everyone enjoyed their main dish. We look forward to going back soon.

My first visit to Judith was a pleasant departure from the limited upscale options in Sewanee. Our server was knowledgeable, engaging and helpful. The liver mousse appetizer was wonderful. The smash burger was delicious although the bun had become a bit soggy by the time it was served. The noise level was a bit too loud for me but overall, the dining experience was excellent.

Prices are high. Food was very good, but served warm, not hot. Should be able to slit ticket as ordered, not equally, no matter who ordered what! Have never experienced this , anywhere.
