Since November 2018, Fitzroy’s Gertrude Street has been home to ISH, a lively, inventive Indian restaurant. Serving up contemporary Indian cuisine, the restaurant’s ethos is rooted in the liminal: its inspirations both traditional and modern, its flavours both familiar and surprising, its spirit both global and local. It serves to represent, through food, the dynamism that so defines modern-day India. ISH is Indian-ish, yes, but also Australian; modern-ish, yes, but also classic. In short, it delivers what can only be described as ‘unexpected India.’

    Modern ISH name can't be more justified with the food and ambience of this Indian restaurant. Lived up to its name of blended cuisine and wine collection. Excellent servers provide great advise on choosing meals and with service of meal delivery. From a casual to special occasion this place is 100% recommended

    Absolutely delicious and satisfying dishes, with a good vegetarian selection. Everything wa stop notch, from starters to. mains to sides. We didn't have enough stomach to try all the dishes. Will be back! Service was friendly, efficient and attentive. Place is very clean.

    Had a wonderful evening at Ish, food was delicious! Couldn’t fault any of the dishes we ate. Service was excellent to match, very personable and friendly! Top quality Indian cuisine.

    ISH offers an exceptional dining experience that merges Indian fusion cuisine with a warm, inviting ambiance. From the moment you enter, you’re greeted by the friendly staff who ensure every detail is perfect. The menu is a delightful fusion of local Indian ingredients and global culinary techniques. Each dish is a work of art, meticulously prepared to tantalize the taste buds. The Zucchini flower bhaji was so unique and flavourful. For the main course, Paneer makhanai and Butter Chicken were beautifully cooked and served with soft black garlic naan. The in-house made Paneer was a game changer. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between sophistication and comfort. ISH is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience in Melbourne. Highly recommended!

    I had a great experience at ISH. The food was delicious—Dahi Puri for starters, and Garlic Naan, Palak Paneer, Prawn Mushroom Moilee, and Basmati Rice for mains. The naan was perfectly soft with a generous serving, while the basmati rice portion was a bit smaller than expected. The Dahi Puri was the best I’ve had so far. The ambience was perfect—not too noisy—and the staff were very friendly. Service was a bit slow at times, but it was understandable as they were reasonably busy with only two waiters and a cashier. Overall, a wonderful spot for a cozy meal. I’d definitely visit again!

    Food was very high quality with some quirky twists - so recommend the place The wine list needs some work though with some better value choices in the Chardonnay by the bottle needed
