Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of elevated yet familiar Italian fare with traditional antipasti, Roman-style pizzas, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab and market-driven mains that highlight the season's bounty.

    The service was spot on despite only being open for 12 days. It is very loud. Do not come here if you are looking for a romantic dinner. The music needs to be turned down. We found ourselves shouting just to hear each other. The artichokes live up to the hype. The carbonara did not as it was overly salty. The sauce was too thick and appeared to have sat too long. The pork dish was delicious, as were the desserts. Would like to come back after the holidays to try some other items on the menu.

    Arrived right at opening, happy to see other excited folks waiting to dine. Drink menu was original. Plates were adequately sized. It was nice to see Chef Flamm in the dining room! Our server Mario was wonderful.

    10/10, no notes. The space was incredible, along with the service and of course the food. Don’t skip the artichoke or mortadella pizza!

    I thought the food was very good. (English translations on the menu would be nice). They are newly opened so still ironing out a few kinks. The space is a bit cold to me. They should add a few cozy fireplaces or something to make it feel more warm and inviting. It’s a large, open space with a lot of windows. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating.

    Great experience! Mike the bartender was AMAZING! Our server Alessandro had perfect recommendations and made our night even better with his fun personality. Hard to pick a favorite dish although the namesake is AMAZING! Great food, great drinks, great vibe! We can’t wait to go back soon.

    Food was pretty mediocre. Only the two pastas we tried (amatriciana, oxtail tagliatelle) and the romanesco were good. The halibut was not good. The gelato was icy and grainy when it should be smooth. Even though the whipped cream in the maritozzi was good, the brioche was dry. Overall, very overhyped restaurant.

    Wanted to give it 5 stars and I think in due time it’ll get there. Service was very good, but not prompt. Wait staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, but took a long time to first be seen and receive our drinks. The restaurant itself is very pretty, and it was great to see it packed. GNOCCHETTI PESTO - pillowy, light, excellent. Would order again every time. SPAGHETTI AGLIO E OLIO - highly flavorful, complex, about 30 seconds away from being fully cooked. SUPPLI RAGU - excellent, salty, crispy. Would order again. CARCIOFI ALLA GUIDA - the leaves were salty fried heavenly perfection. The heart was good, but not mind blowing. That said, will recommend to everyone going. PIZZA ROSSO - very solid, very good SWEET CREAM GELATO - would not order again. Grainy, icy, and over churned. Cocktails were both solid. Looking forward to going back. All in all for a few week old restaurant was very impressed.
