The name “Ichoume” comes from the address of this street. Ichoume is located on ‘1’ Harbour Street, Darling Quarter. That’s why we named the restaurant “Ichoume” (Choume is used for addresses in Japan. It's a way of breaking a municipality into districts. 丁目(Choume) is ‘city district’, so ‘1 choume’(Ichoume) is ‘1st [city] district’).

The design concept of the restaurant is a hangout for adults.

The menu is supervised by AKIKO ISHIKAWA, who has accumulated her career in many restaurants. The head chef is TOMOHIKO KIMURA . He specialises in Japanese - based cuisine with French techniques and flavours. SHINSUKE TODA is recognised among the best sushi chefs now working and is credited with techniques utilised in contemporary sushi and sashimi preparation.

    Everything was great! The staff are nice and welcoming, the food was delicious and the staff brought each dish out with great timing. It was Friday night, they had live jazz music and it set the mood nicely!

    We went there for a pre-theatre meal on a Sunday - we let our waitress know we had to be out within an hour and she was EXCELLENT at handling that! Straight of the bat, she let us know of the dishes that would take too long and said she would absolutely make sure we were done in time and true to her word, we were. The initial table they had us at was in the hot sun but she happily moved us under the fan and even pulled down the blinds for us blocking it out a bit. There was a concert happening in the main square so it was quite loud but fun that we could enjoy our delicious food and listen in. The food came out quickly and it was all very yum - highly recommend - we just couldn’t be more impressed with the efficient and friendly service!

    Service was fantastic and food was delicious. We tried sea grapes, eel roll, vege noodles, vege calamari - loved every bite.

    Great food freshly prepared, excellent service and good pricing for central Sydney too. Just what we needed on a Sunday lunch outing!

    I have a food allergy to sesame seeds which makes eating at Japanese restaurant sometimes difficult but our waiter was the most kind and accomodating person. He asked the kitchen if each individual dish could be made without sesame and if it couldn’t he helped us choose something else on the menu. Impeccable service. Will definitely be back again.

    Christmas Day 1200 lunch reservation. Me, my wife and our dog. We sat outside on a beautiful Sydney day. Food and drinks were excellent, the staff efficient and friendly. A most enjoyable lunch.

    Ichoume is our favourite restaurant in Sydney. The food is always incredible and the service is above and beyond. Big thank you to Yuki for always looking after us! We recommend this place to everyone, you will not be disappointed!
