To mark the 80th anniversary of the start of rationing, Jim’s Cafe and OpenTable is creating the Home Front Café, a homage to the rations that British residents survived on.

OpenTable has challenged Miguel Barclay to make do and mend, designing a delicious menu that uses little or no meat, sugar, eggs and fat, that the team at Jim’s Cafe will bring to life.

The Home Front Café will be open for one day on Monday 3rd February where rather than paying for the retro three course meal, guests are invited to make a donation to The Royal British Legion.

                                The food was a bit bland. The quantity of the dish may not be suitable for a hearty eater. I supposed that was what people ate during war time. Part of the vegetarian main dish, the cauliflower was burnt, therefore tasted bitter. The long leaf vegetables were quite tough. Told the waitress who apologised & said 'after all it's free'. We didn't take too kindly of that comment. We did donate to the good cause.

                                Lovely pop up and one night experience to promote and remember the times people had to ration back in the 1940's. Would go to one of these again, food was yummy!
