Gum Bistro is a casual, fun and approachable restaurant located in West End. Serving simple, honest dishes cooked to showcase the fantastic produce available to us in Queensland.

Gum Bistro is located on land of the Jagera and Turrbal people. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians, and Elders past, present and future, of the lands on which we work and live, and further acknowledge, thank and pay respect to the Traditional Owners of the land in the multitude of Aboriginal countries across Australia from which so many of our products come from.

Surprised that this place has so many super positive reviews. 1.The $15 tomato salad is 150 grams of chopped tomatoes with oil, vinegar, and some herbs. 2.Instead of Cabernet, they brought me Pinot Noir. Honestly, the difference is noticeable even by sight. 3.It took an hour between appetizers and the main courses. 4.The fish was blatantly undercooked. 5.After our food was taken away, the chef apparently realized the fish wasn’t ready. We didn’t complain, but the waitress came over and promised a 50% discount on the bill. Naturally, there was no discount in the end—they just removed the inedible fish from the check. 6.The date’s pudding wasn’t a pudding. But that was tasty.

what a great restaurant in an electic location of West End. Phil and Lachlan really let their creativity and the food shine. my guests and I were very impressed and will be back again. sublime wine list

Fantastic service, food was Devine, great share menu however could easily have single meals. We had the sourdough - cook to perfection light fluffy but moist enough - paired with delicious butter; Congolese - so tasty. And great to have the bread alongside to soak up the juices. The cauliflower also cooked beautifully with a crispness on the outside but beautiful and tender to eat - the sauce on the cauliflower was Devine! The cod was tender and melt in the mouth the asparagus was so fresh… and again cooked to perfection which is never easy. The sauce on the cod and asparagus was glorious with the capers throughout giving it an edge. Finished with the best sticky fate pudding we’ve ever had (and we have had a lot over the years). Full of rich flavour but balanced brilliantly with the cardamom ice cream. Rose and gin were lovely… we will definitely be back !
