Inspired by the Café Royal Cocktail Book compiled in 1937, the Green Bar at Hotel Café Royal is a vibrant cocktail destination for contemporary Londoners and hotel guests. Celebrating the diverse history of the location, the list features Botanicals and Tonics and an Absinthe journey alongside classic cocktail concoctions and a selection of light lunch dishes and small plates.

                                                                                                                                    When I booked this place I was hoping to have something to eat as well, but only stayed for drinks. I was not sure if we were expected for dinner. Anyway, we were not offered to move to a dining table after two hours so had drinks and left to find another restaurant.

                                                                                                                                    The Green Bar is quickly becoming a firm favourite. The staff are impeccable and the food at brunch was delicious. It's also very good value - unlimited food and a bottle of prosecco between two for £25 each. Not bad at all!

                                                                                                                                    All of the dishes were of a very high standard: the mushroom soup was very smooth and had a wonderful depth of flavour; the chicken and mushroom pie (note that these should be kept in a “hot box” rather than just sat on the bar) was very rich in flavour with flaky pastry; the cheese board was largely French, good quality, and served at the correct temperature. The other savoury dishes were delightful too, and the presentation was elegant and fun e.g. crudités were served “planted” in small terracotta flowerpots filled with hummus. The patisserie was very good, and very classical: an apricot and pistachio tart and a pear and almond tart, both of which had wonderfully short, rich, buttery pastry. To wash this feast down was either a half bottle of Prosecco or bottomless Bloody Marys – I’d recommend the oriental for its fiery kick of ginger! The staff were very attentive and friendly too, always ensuring that tables were cleared in anticipation of the next dish! All in all a superb addition to the London brunch scene – I’ll definitely be back!
