Mia Francesca features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio. It was one of the first restaurants in Chicago to encourage the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, simple, rustic cooking, friendly service, and fair prices.

Waiting for a table at the beautiful antique bar is part of the charm of Mia Francesca. The plush upstairs dining room and lounge can be reserved for private events, as can the more intimate coach house tucked away behind the restaurant. In the summer, al fresco dining is also available on a charming cobblestone terrace.

Overall one of my favorites- had a little struggle with the Wine List could not order the Cabernet originally requested and then could not get the same substituted bottle when ordering 2nd bottle for the table. Server was great and very accommodating.

We weren’t seated until 30 min after our reservation with barely an apology and no offer of a complimentary appetizer or anything. They were out of bread. They were out of the wine and chicken one of our friends wanted to order. As we were being seated I asked if we could sit at one of the vacant tables nearby that might’ve been a little more protected from the noise because my husband is hard of hearing (which I also asked for in our reservation)l notes), the hostess said the tables were being saved for a party of 12. That turned out to be a lie. 3 separate parties of 4 were seated at those tables.

Food was really great, as usual. However, we had a 7 pm reservation on a Saturday night, but were not seated until 7:30. Seems there must be a system problem--like they are over-booking.

We really enjoyed the restaurant week offerings. The beet appetizer and apple crisp like dessert in particular were outstanding. The service was also great. The only piece of constructive feedback is the size of your two top tables. They are tiny and don't work well for much more than a drinks and small plates.

Mia Francesca has a limited menu, which is one of its drawbacks, in my opinion. I'd like to see soup on the menu, for example, and a greater variety of dessert options. The quality of the food is good, and the kitchen uses fresh ideas to make the meal interesting. We visited for Restaurant Month and took advantage of the Prix Fixe menu. It had several delicious options of which our party took full advantage. The service has always been attentive and pleasant at Mia Francesca. However, if you're looking for a quiet dining room, you may decide to go elsewhere. Also, covered parking is limited, though there is a free valet service. Overall, a good value for a fine meal!
