Ēma is a Mediterranean and California-inspired restaurant from Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants located at 1320 Patriot Blvd. The menu, crafted by Chef Partner CJ Jacobson features spreads, dips and assorted mezze, Mediterranean small plates, with an emphasis on Hummus & Spreads, Raw, Vegetables and Kebabs. Signature dishes include Moroccan Onion Dip, Spinach & Feta Spread, Tahini Caesar Salad, Octopus Carpaccio and Spicy Brisket Kefta Kebab.

The beverage program showcases cocktails with flavors crafted from Mediterranean ingredients like chinola, fig, fresno chile and coriander. The wine program, curated by Sommelier John C. Slatter, features a globally sourced list of over 70 selections with a strong focus on wineries practicing organic and natural production across the Mediterranean, including ancient grape varieties from Greece, Lebanon and Italy.

This was a girls night out to celebrate a birthday and the holidays. My favorite thing about Ema - aside from how delicious and creative the food is - is that the portion sizes are big enough to share, but not so huge that you feel guilty ordering multiple dishes. There were six of us and we ordered a variety of cocktails (which were beautifully presented) followed by several dishes from all sections of the menu. We started with the classic hummus and the toasted almond & garlic spread. The hummus was predictably delicious, but the real standout was the toasted almond garlic spread. It was crunchy and nutty and had lots of flavor. We next had the chopped salad and the big eye tuna with Honeycrisp apple and pomegranate seeds. The chopped salad had a pleasantly surprising bit of spice to it, which we all enjoyed but….the tuna preparation was stellar and is a relatively new add to the menu. Ema’s previous tuna dish – from October – included watermelon, but this dish was truly spectacular! The bright pop of color and tartness in the pomegranate, paired with the tuna and diced apple, along with the mint… Made it look like Christmas on a plate. SK SO good!! We then had falafel, brussels sprouts and brown butter dates. The falafel is crunchy and flavorful, and served with a beet-laced tzatziki. The brussels sprouts were prepared with shallots and pumpkin seeds and a subtle hint of sticky sweetness. The dates were fine, but nobody was raving about them like we did the other dishes. We finished our meal with the harissa crusted halibut, and the cauliflower kebab. Both were excellent, although my personal favorite was the halibut. It is served on a bed of mushrooms, in a Dashi broth with a spicy crust on top. The fish was tender and flaky and full of flavor. Service (Morgan) was attentive but not annoying; ambience is chic and classy but comfortable. You would never know you are in a parking lot in Glenview as opposed to a terrace in the Mediterranean.

Beautiful interior and truly superb food. I’ve dined at both Ema locations and they both are amazing. The interior at Glenview might surpass that of River North

Very unfriendly host attempted to seat us in a congested section then in a freezing area. Seating area poor, under cold blowing air, had to request change of seats which the waiter graciously accommodated. The ONLY positive was the kind waiter. Limited menu and heard people remarking, what is this food? Once and done!

First, positives. The place is beautiful - the plants, the light fixtures, the set up and overall ambiance - are terrific. The most important thing about any restaurant- the food - absolutely delicious. Amazing flavors! Our favorites were sweet potato latkes, short ribs, salmon and the classic hummus. What I didn’t enjoy was the incredible wait. It took us almost an hour to get the first dish, and that was after flagging our waiter. Children’s meal came an hour and a half after ordering. We came here to celebrate a birthday, a special occasion. The way we were treated didn’t feel special at all. So I probably won’t be back.

Ema’s is always a good choice! We enjoyed everything we ordered, including hamachi, tuna with apples, dates,Caesar salad, potatoes with a sour cream sauce, Bomba for desert, and capucchino.
