Welcome to the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston-On Sea, a hotel and restaurant with unrivalled views of the Norfolk and Suffolk coast.

The Cliff Hotel dates back to 1890 when the original hotel was opened, in 1915 the building was ravaged by fire and demolished. The old staff accommodation was renovated into a new hotel, the building that we currently occupy today.

We have a vast selection of dining options from our relaxed art-deco inspired MUSE restaurant, our vibrant bar dining area or one of the biggest outside dining terraces in Norfolk.

Wherever you decide to eat our menus will give you a huge variety of choice from fresh fish to steaks and grills. Alternatively we have lighter snacks and a range of classic dishes to delight all tastes.

    The hotel is situated 2 minutes off the main A47 road, 17 miles east of Norwich. Nearest train station is in Great Yarmouth, a 10 minute taxi ride away. There are regular bus links to Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, the nearest bus stop is on Avondale Road. Domestic and international flights can be arranged from Norwich international airport.

    Staff were very helpful and polite. They had a busy Christmas period so a few things were missing from the menu.The main vegetarian choice wasn’t available but the kitchen adapted a meal for me which was very nice . Would definitely visit again.

    Overall the Cliff Hotel is a good restaurant experience, I felt the negative points were: The napkins are poor quality the information regarding food items no longer on the menu should have been given when being seated not when ordering. Also if when ordering a sirloin steak it is off the menu the next cheapest steak should be offered at the same price. The last point maybe a personal point, I felt that the young waitresses skirts were very short. I took the time to all the girls skirt lengths and they were all short. I feel that the girls should be allowed to wear a longer length skirt.

    Booked two weeks in advance, for granddaughters 13th birthday for New Year’s Eve. Then got a phone call on 26/12/24 to be told they now had a private function and we could only have drinks. Asked receptionist to ask manager to phone me (No phone call) we phoned round and told the pier hotel what had happened and they kindly fitted us all in on short notice, as locals who use the cliff regularly we are never giving the cliff our custom.

    Everyone in our group enjoyed their food. Wide variety on the menu. Service was great. I had emailed ahead with some additional requirements as our meal was to celebrate a birthday and all my requests were accommodated and overall we had a lovely time.

    Table pre booked for 6 people and when we arrived we were told the kitchen had closed. We were on time and not told of any changes to our booking.

    Quite honestly we both had sirloin steak which we said was probably the best we’ve ever had.

    Over priced food, slow service. This was a special treat for a birthday no effort was made at all by anybody. I ordered what appeared to be a chilli jacket potato. It was inedible very dry no flavour, salad came with salad dressing already on, which had mustard seeds in the dressing which made me very sick. I won’t be returning Yes very disappointing indeed, fish & chips my friend had she nearly swollen a big fish bone, the batter was very greasy & thick, pot of tea, very expensive.

    I believe we had the manager serving us eventually who was amazing, prior to that the staff were a bit slow or unsure. The cocktails were great, but the food was a bit poor. I had cold eggs on my eggs Benedict, my friends chicken didn’t look fully cooked, and my other friend had horrible looking pale sausages and undercooked bacon on her dirty fries.
