"Top Restaurants in Napa Valley" - SF Chronicle, 2024.

Compline is an award-winning wine and food destination in the heart of downtown Napa, created by veteran sommeliers Matt Stamp and Ryan Stetins. Our chalkboard menu focuses on Californian cuisine, emphasizing the bounty and flavors of Northern California.

Our 500-selection wine list focuses on handpicked local favorites and classic bottles from all over the world. A separate retail shop selection allows our guests to grab a bottle to go.

We want to bring the Napa community and visitors to our valley together to eat good food, enjoy great wine, and experience our relaxed downtown Napa hospitality.

We offer communal dining experience for private parties, consisting of four courses for dinner and two or three courses for lunch. Menus are highly seasonal and include meat, fish, and vegetarian options. We can seat 26 in our private room and 50 for a restaurant buyout. Relax in style at the bar, browse our cellar-temperature shop, take in illustrator Nigel Sussman's epic mural of the wine world, enjoy our vinyl record collection, and sip on amazing wines. This experience is for guests 21 and up— minors are not allowed in our shop.

NOTE* The Chef's Lunch Menu is $50 per person. An additional $25 per person will be collected at the time of your reservation. The $25 prepayment serves as a deposit and will be credited towards your bill. For larger parties at lunch, Chef Edwin creates a two-course menu supplemented by our famous duck fat fries and crudités. The menu is paced at your preference—we can promptly serve a business group that needs to head back to the office, or we can provide a longer, leisurely, and celebratory lunch experience. Each guest may choose from several options for both courses. With advance notice, we are always happy to accommodate vegetarians, gluten-fee diners, and other guests with dietary preferences when writing your menu.

Ivan was excellent! It was everything we expected and more. The food was items that you can find elsewhere but they will not taste as delicious as they did there! Five Stars all around!

We love Compline. The food is so delicious. I tried the Rabbit Lumache this time and every one in our group loved it. The duck fat fries are always perfect. Our only feedback on our latest visit was the price of the short rib at $54 seemed high. The plate was basically just one short rib ( it was large) on a small amount of some root vegetable purée. It seems like they could fill the plate up with a few other things at that price. Sometimes we eat with our eyes and the first impression was that just looked like it wasn’t worth $54, so that impacted how we felt about the experience. We will definitely go back, but wouldn’t order the short rib at rib even though it was delicious.

Burger and fries the only item on the menu wprth ordering. Menu doesn’t seem to have changed for years. Waited 30 minutes for our wine at lunch. Restaurant wasn’t that busy. Seems they were understaffed and undertrained for a wine restaurant. Bottle list always 86’d and not updated.

Subtle elegance is what you get with Compline. From the ambiance of the restaurant to the service and definitely not least, the food. We partook of the 6 course chef’s tasting with a wine pairing and it was such a pleasure. Our servers spoiled us with their attention to our comfort. Our Sommelier entertained and educated us along with our wine pairing which was spot on. The chef, Edwin, came table side and described our dishes as we were being served. EVERY course was delicious with their tomato soup and smoked short ribs Stars of the show. We are fans of chef’s tastings and pairings. Having dined at Foray, Le Petite Canailles, Press, Protege, Single Thread and French Laundry, Compline definitely holds its own in this lineup. Bravo !! We look forward to dining with you again.

Very good but portions are small Enjoyed yellow fin tuna appetizer And fish for main Had to order polenta that was great as an extra to fill the plate Warm almond cake was superb!

Great food. One of the best by the glass wine lists in all of napa valley and absolutely one of the best bottle lists too. It’s a happy place that I highly recommend.
