El Blackfriars fue elegido como el mejor restaurante en los Tourism Awards del Nordeste de Inglaterra Este en 2013. El restaurante se construyó en 1239, y desde entonces ha servido como el de los frailes, siendo uno de los comedores diseñados para tal fin más antiguos y con más historia del Reino Unido. Aquí se sirve un menú británico clásico, preparado con productos de granjas y mercados locales y acompañado de una gran selección de vinos premiados. El comedor del Blackfriars cuenta con 72 asientos, un salón de eventos con 50 asientos y un salón de taller de hasta 12 asientos. El Blackfriars fue recientemente premiado 'Best Sunday Lunch in Newcastle' por los lectores del Independent y 'Best Restaurant in Norh East/Newcastle' por los lectores de The Observer y Metro Newspaper. Before the advent of cheap flights and package holidays, the most we knew about Greece was its ancient origins, empire and gods. However, after a few decades of Greek tavernas and sunshine, we’ve all grown to love Baklava, Tzatziki and Kleftiko. Not sure about retsina? We’ll have a good go at making the rest!

You can enjoy homemade sandwiches and pastries, freshly made scones and cakes along with a cup of tea or glass of fizz either in our King's Suite, Cloister Garden, Parlour Bar or Restaurant. Please let us know of any dietaries or allergies upon booking. We're currently unable to accommodate a vegan afternoon tea. Available on Fridays and Saturdays between 2.45-4.00pm. Please note; Afternoon Tea may be served in our King's Suite, which is located on the first floor. If you require a more accessible table, please get in touch to let us know.

We went to Blackfriars for a birthday meal. The birthday girl received a card from the restaurant, which I thought was a nice touch. Before we attended the meal we were asked if we wanted to pre-order any drinks as it was for a special birthday. We decided not to do this, but we thought this was nice idea as well. The food is usually amazing here and it was the same this time. I had the market fish, which was trout with potatoes and vegetables. The flavours were fantastic. The service was really wonderful, well timed and friendly. The atmosphere was really great too. The restaurant had a lovely, welcoming feel about it. It is one of my favourite places and will definitely return soon.

Attended the tapas and tipples event. The Spanish wines were well matched to the food. The event leader was very knowledgeable. A very enjoyable evening.

We had an incredible night learning about Spanish and Portuguese wines from an excellent sommelier Will. We learnt about the process of making sparkling wines, the oak vats and cinnamon in wines and most importantly what it tastes like. Thank you.
