Bettys is famous for afternoon tea, and if you want to experience the finest we offer, book your table in the Belmont Room, York. This beautiful, historic room - located on the first floor of our York tea room - is steeped in history and provides the perfect setting for our most exquisite afternoon tea. You'll be serenaded by our pianist as you enjoy a selection of savouries, indulgent sandwiches, specially selected teas and irresistible dainty cakes and scones. Put aside any concerns you may have about not feeling full: we’ll happily replenish pots of tea and sandwiches to make sure you leave feeling content.     We had a disappointing experience. Our table was booked for 4.30 which we didn’t realise was the last slot. Our first pot of tea was warm rather than hot so we had to ask for a refill which was returned hot. The sandwiches (particularly the egg rolls) felt like they had been out for a while and were not fresh. The open sandwich was rather tasteless. Everything else was nice. Staff were lovely but not attentive enough as they were busy clearing up and preparing the tables for the next day. So overall sadly disappointing compared to previous visits 😟

    This was out 3rd visit to the Belmont Room for afternoon tea celebrating a birthday each time. As on previous occasions the food was lovely , however on this occasion the service from our server was not up to the standard we’d had in the past which slightly spoilt the occasion. Despite telling us at the start that hot drinks and sandwiches were replenishable she never once came to ask if we would like more We tried to get her attention several times during the time we were there to no avail and we had the concierge to sort out our bill as she too busy sorting the next sitting to pay us any attention

    My server (Andrea) was so lovely and helpful! It was a wonderful treat to have time to myself, with delicious food and drink. I highly recommend and will certainly be returning next year when I can.

    This is our 4th Afternoon Tea at Betty’s. Always very good , service excellent and lively hearing the pianists playing Christmas carols and music

    It was incredible, service was so friendly and the cake with a candle for a birthday was just the sweetest surprise. The pianist was brilliant it was just a shame she couldn’t be heard over other guests playing children’s music because she truly was amazing. The food was fabulous and the little to go boxes and extras were a lovely touch. Absolutely worth the money and the trip.

    Service not as polished as on previous visits, but still a pleasant occasion. Had to catch the eye of staff to ask for refill of tea and food rather than staff checking in on us. Was very surprised and disappointed that vegetarian sandwich options were very limited: only 2 choices as opposed to two with meat and eggs: a ham and cheese sandwich without the ham (!) as our server described it, and a curried chickpea sandwich. Surely in 2024 it must be possible to create three different vegetarian sandwich options to cater for non-meat eaters! In summary, it was nice to eat in the Belmont Room again: it's a beautiful room with a wonderful atmosphere with live piano music, but the food and service didn't seem as good as on our previous visits. I'm sure we will come back to Betty's again in the future, but will be trying out other places in York on our next few visits.
