Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music.

Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Dining with friends? You can't go wrong with our family style Dinner Party Menu. We include an array of house selected apps, mains and desserts from our current seasonal menu. All dishes are meant to be shared among your whole group. Sample a little or a lot of whatever meets your fancy! It's a great way to dine and depending on the night, Chef Amol might stop by your table for a little visit! We’ve dined several times at Bardo & love it! However last night we were disappointed in the service. Our reservation was not ready until 40 minutes later & the hostess was not the slightest bit apologetic. Our server offered no knowledge of the menu and rarely checked in. The food was amazing as always but we would’ve definitely ordered a second bottle of wine had our waiter been around.

We sat at the bar, the service was great. Each dish we ordered was delicious, the ribeye was the best. Took the bartender’s recommendation about drinks and they were excellent.

I was really excited to eat here but it just totally missed the mark. The steak tasted fine but incredibly overpriced and about 45% fat. I understand that a ribeye has a lot of marbling, but this was ridiculous. They were out of potato pave so we had the duck spring rolls. Again fine, but nothing special If you’ve got money to burn, this restaurant is good enough. If you’re looking for a special night out though, you can do better.

We were seated upstairs which was quiet. The waiter was right there to take our drink order, and French fries. They arrived quickly and so did the waiter wanting our dinner order. We asked for a few minutes to enjoy our cocktails. He was back in no time and we ordered entrees. Food arrived quickly. The 3 different salads ordered were all really good. Entree arrived quickly after. Schnitzel was a generous portion, gnocchi wasn’t -but was delicious. Ordered 2 desserts to share. The restaurant doesn’t offer espresso, but would suggest skipping the coffee which tasted old and bitter. While the waiter was efficient, we never saw him smile once during our dinner. And the finale was him telling us he needed the table…in other words, please leave! This is strange because they have a sofa/chairs seating area upstairs. They could have politely asked us to move there-and if they had, we would probably have ordered another drink. Part of the enjoyment of a restaurant is the hospitality of the servers. This was missing.
